What a great trip!  Having done a lot of fishing off the coast of Texas but never having caught a billfish, my dad always wanted to catch one.  So, my wife and I gave my father such a trip for his 80th birthday.  We chose Championship Charters to take me and my dad out and we’re glad we did!  Did we catch a billfish?  No, but it wasn’t for the lack of captain Matt and deckhand Steven’s extreme skill, their trying of many different approaches and using excellent and varied equipment and techniques.  My dad and I understood this could be the outcome as they aren’t called “trophy fish” for nothing!  Captain Matt, before we even got on the boat in the early morning, even confirmed with us and reminded us that we could troll for hours and not get a bite.  But, that’s what we wanted!  It was still worth it!  These guys know what they are doing and the equipment to do it with!  No doubt if there was a billfish to be caught that day trolling, we would have caught it!  But, while trolling, Captain Matt put us over a school of Mahi Mahi and my dad and I pulled in sixteen of them in about as many minutes.  Wow!  We also caught a Bonita which Steven later skillfully turned into two “fish” with hooks sewn in to their “body” that were used as bait along with some “lights” spaced on the line while deep-drop fishing for swordfish at depths over 1200 feet.  No swordfish hooked either, but what an interesting try!

Five star outing!!!! Fantastic day of red snapper fishing with Captian Matt and his deckhand Steven. We booked a six hour trip and had a limit of great sized snapper within the first two hours. We also caught a couple of grouper - one was tagged - but due to being out of season we had to release. One thing that stood out about this trip is Capt. Matt seemed to go out of his way to fish for what our boys wanted to catch. Steven was also great about adapting to different skill levels within our group. We fished the full six hours, where as other charters have asked to cut the trip short once a snapper limit was caught. If you are looking for a great chapter trip, I highly recommend Championship Charters!  (Last pic is of our fresh catch dinner. Broiled snapper with a lemon butter sauce! DELICIOUS!!)

Best experience ever from booking to follow up!! The entire team are genuine and it is obvious they care and desire to give you an amazing experience!!  Mild rain came and Matt would just avoid and Steven made sure we were comfortable at all times . They educated us and knew where the fish were.  They were proactive making sure once we reached a fishing spot , we were ready to catch fish!  Makes a world of difference when you are treated more than a customer and a payment for the day!  No question who I will call my next trip!! We caught two massive wahoo (plus many other keeper fish) on the Wahoo Special package. Captain Matthew and Steven knew where the fish were and put us on them at the right speed, with the right equipment and the right baits. Very accommodating to anglers of all abilities and experience. What I found especially refreshing was Mathew and Christian’s willingness to rearrange our trip if need be due to weather and driving distance. Top notch customer service from booking, pre-trip, the actual fishing experience and post-trip. If you are after pelagics, Championship is the right boat.
