Trip Summary
When the conditions are favorable I will usually run out into the nearshore Gullf to do something a little different with clients. I had a day off recently and my oldest daughter and my son had asked to go fishing, so I agreed and with very good conditions decided to head out into the Gulf and see what we could find.
I started on some ledges that I had about 8 miles out and got onto a great bite of Mangrove Snapper, Lane Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, Porgy, some almost keeper sized Gag Grouper and a few small AmberJack. After a while I made the move a couple miles north to another spot around 8 and a half miles out. The bottom bite was instant and the kids were able to load up on some really nice Red Grouper and a pile of Lane Snappers and Grunts. After a couple hours the kids where getting worn out so I came back in to a couple miles off of the beach and ran a few crab trap lines looking to sight fish some Tripletail to finish out the morning. We saw a bunch as we went and stopped on the three biggest we saw to catch a couple for dinner. They even let me catch one for good measure.
