Capt Luis is a very experienced fisherman and will try his best to get you on the fish. It was a bit slow probably due to the eclipse but him and his wife were able to get us a big sailfish and a 20 pound plus bull Mahi. We learn new things every time we charter fishing trips. We were probably 20 plus miles off shore trolling in the largest pod of dolphins I had ever seen. We were trying hard to catch yellow fin tuna but could not get them to bite.  They were feeding just below the dolphins but I did see some large ones breach the water. Capt Luis tied several techniques to get a stoke but they can be elusive. We fish for these same fish here in SE Florida on out boat so we get it.  Would highly recommend booking the El Gato III.  if you are traveling to Flamingo from the northern beaches like Coco and Hermosa,  please check out the shortcut road called the “Monkey Trail” it will cut your trip in half. Road is subject to the rainy season.

This is our first trip to CR. Like every first timer, I really just took a shot in the dark at booking a sport fishing trip for me and my wife.

Captain Louis and his wife did an excellent job. He put us on the fish trolling all day. First hook-up of the day was a big Marlin.  Not having to do with the crew but because of my lack of experience prevented us from landing the monster.
We caught a couple good sized Mahi ( which I’m posting just after having a fabulous fresh catch dinner).
You can’t go wrong with this charter. I’ll be booking them in the future.

1st time Fishing in Costa Rica and it was amazing.  Capt Luis picked us up on beach right at resort at 6am.  4 Members in our party.  Boat was a little tight for 4 adults but we didn’t care and made it work.  Hooked into 1st Mahi within 40min of getting picked up.  2nd fish was on line was 100+ sailfish about 10min after 1st Mahi catch.  After about a 10min fight line broke and lost fish.  Caught 4 more mahi’s before fishing slowed down around 10:30am.  Trolled all the way in to shore but no bites.  Wind significantly picked up around 11am and water got choppy making for rough but entertaining ride back in.  Communication was limited with Luis since we don’t speak Spanish, but he and his wife we super hospitable and supportive.  Treated us to some homemade tuna salad dip that was amazing and washed it down with a couple Imperials!! Pura Vida!! Would definitely fish again with El Gato!

I am an avid angler so I am usually very critical on these trips.  Luis and Sandi worked very hard to make the trip perfect and had extreme attention to detail.  Luis flat out knows how to catch them.  His equipment is in good shape and well maintained.  Sandi kept the boat spotless and orderly.  Its not a big boat so know that going in but for 2 people its perfect.  He only goes a few miles out and he knows where to go.  We were in fish most of the day.  We boated 8 Durado and missed another 5, had a giant marlin on and got it to the boat before it pulled off.  Had two other sailfish on the bait but no hookup.  He even had some really good sandwiches to eat.  We took some of our meat to the restaurant next to the pickup spot and they cooked it for us.  Great meal.  If i come back I will definitely book Luis again.  Whatever is biting he knows where they are at and how to catch them.

The boat and gear was excellent. The crew was on their game, helping efficiently all the time.  The bait was good, the lures were appropriate, and the spread behind the boat was perfect. We were able to catch.  A big wahoo and a very big sail fish (released the sailfish), in tough windy conditions. It was a great day.
