Everything started off good, the trip went well overall. The only complaint I have is the captain sub-contracted out to a different boat company closer to us. Charged us up front an extra 444.00 which 300 of this was to go to the subcontractor. When we were done we found out he didn’t pay the 300 to the sub-contractors captain. The sub-contracted captain made us pay him the 300 cash, which we did. We called the main captain and he said he would refund us back. He has never done this and stopped replying to me. I will be disputing this 300.00 with my credit card company.

John and his crew worked like madmen getting hooks on, lines out, hooking fish and repeating after we hit a school and pulled them into the boat. Without their help we wouldn’t of had such a smooth, enjoyable and successful trip. It was AMAZING!!!

My wife Lorene and I enjoyed a fun and memorable morning fishing with John and the crew of Coco Wahoo Maurice and Rene. John was a gracious host who ensured we had the best experience, Maurice was a skillful captain who safely piloted the boat to where the fish were and Rene worked his butt off for us.

As John said the boat may be a little older and not as pretty as some of the other boats but she catches fish. We caught 10 fish this morning including a Mahi Mahi (beautiful fish that put up a fierce fight) a needlefish, four black fin tunas and four yellow fin tunas. The crew made a ceviche out of the needlefish which was delicious and John made tasty carpaccio from some of the yellowfin. In addition to the great fishing we saw whales, turtles, dolphins and tuna and manta rays jumping out of the water.

The boat is spacious and equipped with a toilet which is nice when you are out on the water. The crew were very friendly and helpful. They gave us some Mahi Mahi fillets to take back to the resort ( the Oceans restaurant at Dreams Las Mareas resort will cook your fish for you). John was great to deal with when planning and booking the trip and using Fishfinder made it very easy.

I highly recommend Lucky Dreams Sportfishing and the Coco Wahoo if you want to go fishing when staying at the Dreams Las Mareas resort.

My family of four enjoyed our trip on the Coco Wahoo with Captain John. The boat was large enough for the four of us with a toilet in the hull. The crew was great and the captin was available on the phone before the trip to answer any questions. We caught some bonita for bait, needlefish that was made into ceviche onboard, and a roosterfish that was the highlight. Everyone got a turn in the fighting chair. We ended the day with a fun snorkel trip and some tropical fish viewiing. Along the way we saw humpback whale, whale shark, sea turtle, dolphins, and manta rays. Pickup and dropoff was easy from the beach at Dreams Las Mareas.
The inland excursions in Costa Rica are great, but I would strongly recommend getting out on the water for a day to truly enjoy the coastline. The area is beautiful, with mountains and national parks along the protected shoreline.

This was my first experience chartering a boat for a fishing excursion. We fished in very windy conditions. The crew worked non stop to get us into some fish. This trip was a bucket list experience for me and it was an awesome day. I can’t say enough positive things about our crew. They kept us supplied with refreshments and fish throughout the day. We were also fortunate to observe a mother whale with her calf. Just a magical day spent with my son-in-law which we will cherrish forever.
