BlackH2oDog Charters offer a hands-on experience on Lake Erie! With Captain David at the helm, you’ll have the best guidance you could have asked for. He’s been fishing on Lake Erie for over 35 years and knows the best spots around the islands of the lake. As you can see from the photos, his trips are very family-friendly and kids are encouraged to participate as well.

You’ll be fishing on a 25’ Scout that accommodates up to 4 guests. This express cruiser has a fully enclosed helm that offers protection from wind and rain, so even a tricky weather won’t spoil your day. The boat is powered by a 225 HP Yamaha engine and features navigational electronics, a live bait tank, and a cooler.

Target Walleye any time from Late March to Thanksgiving (early December). Trolling is the primary method used to catch Ohio Walleye but you can also try with casting and drift fishing. Walleye over 28" are fairly common on Lake Erie, these Fish Ohio category Walleye can weigh 9 to 13 pounds. For the next few years, the average Walleye size will be 18" to 24". You’ll fish the open waters as well as reef structures in shallow and deep water. Besides Walleye, you can also catch Yellow Perch and Smallmouth Bass.

Capt. David covers your fishing equipment, so you don’t need to rent it. Just purchase your fishing license and bring your snacks and drinks. Kids of all ages are welcome to join. The captain loves to show newbies how to use the equipment and catch fish.

    Some parties like to drift and cast, some like to troll, and some groups want a little of both. We offer a combo package that gives a little of both. Often times the drift and cast bite is not in the same location as the trolling bite and we need to make significant move to a different on the waters location. For our combo trips the boat will be set up to carry gear for both methods.

I have been fishing Lake Erie Islands for 35+ years. My father and I fished small streams and ponds when I was a young boy. As my interest grew, we grew our fishing experiences together eventually ending up targeting Lake Erie Walleye. We started in small boats and worked our way into tournaments. Competitive fishing changes your viewpoint on finding fish that will bite on any given day. You learn to adapt to the daily conditions. I have been first mating on boats for 25+ years. I enjoyed fishing and sharing my experiences with others each day.

Mike, Craig and Kurt wanted a Walleye experience. Mike and I had worked together for over 17 years at my former workplace. We left our West Harbor dock and headed West of the Islands. We had our first Walleye on as we were setting out Bandits on Off Shore Tackle Company inline planner boards. Our nearshore bite ended quickly after 7 Walleye were on ice. We made a 3 mile move move and had a 30 inch Walleye soon after setting out the gear. They ended the day with 23 Walleye 18 for their limit and I got to reel as well. Bandits 50 to 70 back at 1.8 to 2.0 mph. The fish were very fiesty today when they got near the boat. Fun time watching them run rods and sharing what Lake Erie has to offer.

Aaron and Lex wanted to try their hand at Lake Erie Walleye. We headed out knowing we would likely get caught with a developing rain shower we could see in the Western sky. We did not run far but our first location between the Islands did not pan out. So we headed back towards shore in case the rains came quickly. We caught 7 nice Walleye with 6 going to upcoming meals. Bandits 45 to 90 back. Speed 2.0 mph.

Fisher and Keel were aboard for an afternoon ride on BlackH2oDog Charters. We fished amongst the Lake Erie Islands for our Walleye. We trolled Spro 120s and Bandits 100 feet back at 1.5 to 1.9 mph. Walleye are the best eating freshwater fish. The crew even like the the pieces I toss to them when cleaning the catch.
