It was a great day! We had originally booked a Monday with them, but the weather was crap. About 30 minutes into it, Jimmy asked us what we had going on the rest of our time here and offered for us to move our trip to a day with better weather.  Before we headed back though, he did a little trolling outside the marina to see if he could get us some dinner at no additional cost.

We ended up heading out again on Thursday and told him that we wanted to go after some monsters, so he headed down south. We had a few hits that ended up getting off but was a great day offshore looking for the big boys. I’d definitely recommend going out with Jimmy and James if you make it to Kona!

We started our vacation with Kona Dice immediately after stepping off the plane it was an exhilarating decision that catapulted us into an unforgettable adventure. The thrill began within the first few minutes as we caught our first fish, quickly escalating to a peak when we landed a massive, trophy-sized mahi-mahi. Despite not being as experienced an angler as my dad, the expertise and guidance provided by Captain Jim and first mate Chris made the experience accessible and enjoyable for all of us, showcasing their professionalism and passion for fishing.

We went out with Captain Jim and 1st Mate Chris and caught fish. Not long into the trip got a double Marlin hookup, one on heavy gear and one on light tackle after Captain Jim threw some live bait at the one still chasing lures. We got one to the boat and released, maybe 200#, the other looked about the same. We had 3 other Marlin bites/strikes but didn’t hook. We were also able to pick up 3 Mahi Mahi a little later.
1st Mate Chris was great managing the fishing and keeping lines from tangling during all the action, kept changing baits and was great to have. Captain Jim was a great Captain and put us on the fish. The Kona Dice is a nice fishing platform, plenty of room and comfortable.

From Start to Finish Jim and Chris were great!!! On time, Clean Boat good tunes great people and FISH! Started our day grabbing some bait fish and they even let me help in this event. Most boats do this on their own to make the trip quicker but I loved how they got us involved. We trolled on the way out then set some hooks with our bait and got to it! Lots of laughs and stories told truly a great atmosphere on the water! Now we were only on a 4 hour trip and we fished up untill the very last few minutes with no fish in sight… then all of a sudden we hooked up with a Mahi…. Broke loose…. few seconds later boom another one on… few minutes later we had a stunning big beautiful Mahi Mahi in the boat.
Didn’t get a massive Ahi tuna didn’t see a Marlin… but let me tell you these guys put in all the work and all the effort to make sure you have the best shot at getting to the fish. Even if I didn’t get into a Mahi I’d go out again and again with these guys. Truly from the bottom of my heart Thanks Jim for having us And Thank you Chris for busting your butt with the lines and hanging below making it a great time!

Booked a six hour afternoon trip with my wife and three kids. We do quite a bit of fishing back home in Washington, but our first experience warm water fishing.

Really like the boat layout as it’s not an enclosed cabin easy to walk around and comfortable seating.

Fishing had been slow, and we started on the troll. Deckhand Chris was changing up gear and easy and entertaining to talk to. Captain Jim was super pleasant too.

Had a release that didn’t stick halfway through the trip, and then found and caught some bait. So switched up techniques and fished a live bait, but couldn’t get a bite.

Was starting to get dark and Cap decided that we should try the troll one more time. Made a couple of laps around the bait but couldn’t get a fish to rise, so started trolling to port.

With deck lights on and the sun setting off the stern, the serenity of the moment was instantly shattered by one and then two reels shrieking!!

Pre-trip training for how to fight fish sprung into action as my son got into the fighting chair (the second fish got off). Superb coaching and positive encouragement from Chris on the deck and Captain Jim from the fly bridge, and 20 minutes later, a 72 inch blue marlin was in the boat and my son still hasn’t stopped smiling. What a way to end the day!!

Can’t say enough about this operation. Upbeat, knowledgeable, and experienced. Kept trying different things, made sure that hooks were sharp and gear running right, AND went the extra mile.

We know who we’ll be fishing with again when we come back!
