Most of the action on the island can be found in the south-west corner – in St. Georges, where most fishing charters depart from. From here, you’ll head offshore to fish for big game at the reefs and the drop-off. Here, you'll be fishing blue waters within half an hour of leaving the dock. Less than 5 miles from shore, the sea floor plummets from 80-800 feet deep, attracting serious big game fish (and even more serious anglers). It's no wonder Grenada is considered the hidden gem of Caribbean fishing.

Types of Trips

Most anglers come here with one target in mind – the Blue Marlin. They reach 700 lb on average in these waters, although granders of over 1,000 lb Marlin have been caught here. You can find them here year-round, but come between October and May for the best chances of reeling one in. As you usually need to travel 15-25 miles from shore to chase this fish, 8 hour charters are the best value.

These longer trips will also see you targeting White Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna, Sailfish, and the delicious Mahi Mahi close to the Gulf Stream and past the drop-off. Yellowfin Tuna here can reach sizes up to 200 lb, but don’t be surprised if yours is smaller than that!

If you book a shorter trip, you’ll be able to target Barracuda, Wahoo, and Blackfin Tuna over the continental shelf, 8-16 miles from shore. Kingfish, Jack Crevalle, and Wahoo are even closer to the shore. These trips are good for kids and new anglers.

Looking for something new? Try night fishing for Broadbill Swordfish. These monster Billfish take a couple of hours to reel in, but are more than worth the wait for serious anglers. You’ll be fishing for this ultimate predator with lures that have LED lights attached.

What to Bring

Drinks and snacks are provided on most trips. Some captains will even make sashimi on board when you catch Tuna. Fishing gear and tackle is generally included as standard, along with your fishing license for the day.

In general, any fish you catch will belong to the boat. But the captain will usually make sure you have some fish to take home with you, which your hotel can cook for you.

You’ll need to bring your swimsuit and a towel if you plan on jumping into the water, as well as the sun essentials: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
