Pesca en Fort Morgan

When it comes to Alabama’s angling opportunities, Fort Morgan fishing charters offer the best of both worlds! This barrier island is located at the mouth of Mobile Bay, where you’ll find some incredible inshore and reef fishing. More of a big game fishing fanatic? The southern side of the island provides direct access to the plentiful waters of the Gulf of Mexico. All you need to do is choose your target species and preferred fishing grounds, and set off on the adventure of a lifetime!

Which trip is best for me?

Inshore fishing

If you’re a newer angler, or want to hook a variety of tasty table fare, Mobile Bay is the place to be. Charters departing from the north of Fort Morgan usually offer half day, ¾ day, and full day trips that’ll see you exploring the flats, shallows, and reefs here.

One of the bay’s biggest draws is the seriously short travel time it takes to get to the hotspots. You’ll be able to cast off for inshore species such as Speckled Trout, Redfish, Flounder, and Tripletail within minutes, while Snapper and Grouper varieties can be found lurking around reefs located only a couple of miles from shore.

Head to the south of Fort Morgan, and you’ll be able to explore the shoreline waters of the Gulf. The species differ slightly here, with Red Drum, Jack Crevalle, and Spanish Mackerel on offer, as well as Speckled Trout, Redfish, and the “Silver King,” Tarpon.

Offshore fishing

Although Fort Morgan’s inshore angling opportunities are becoming more and more popular, if you’re an experienced angler, fishing in Alabama probably means one thing to you: deep sea fishing the plentiful waters of the Gulf!

Depending on where you’re from, deep sea fishing can mean different things. In Fort Morgan, it generally refers to bottom fishing, and you’ll find charters manned by local captains who specialize in these trips. They’ll take you to the productive reefs and wrecks, located only a few miles from shore, to hook huge Grouper, Snapper, Triggerfish, Cobia, Amberjack, and others.

If deep sea fishing means seriously big game fish to you, you won’t be disappointed: there are many charters ready to take you out to where the ocean floor drops. Here, you’ll find world-famous fish such as Mahi Mahi, Blue and White Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna varieties, Wahoo, and more. You’ll generally have to travel up to 50 miles out, so make sure you opt for at least a 10-hour trip!

Need to know

As well as plenty of that good ol’ southern charm, charter captains in Fort Morgan will also provide you with top-quality rods and reels, as well as a fishing license. All you need to bring is weather-appropriate clothing, snacks and drinks, and sea sickness medication for those longer trips.

If you want to catch that Alabaman favorite, Red Snapper, check when the open season is with your captain in order to avoid disappointment. Come discover Fort Morgan’s incredible and endless angling opportunities for yourself!
