When you step aboard a Port St. Joe fishing charter, you’ll immediately see why this place earned the nickname “small town, big heart.” Get ready to come on as a customer, but leave as a friend, as your welcoming captain regales you with tales of the waters, and fulfills all your fishing dreams.

The St. Joe Bay holds all of the inshore riches one could wish for in Florida’s Panhandle. These calm waters are home to Redfish and Spotted Seatrout, with Tripletail, Flounder, Sheepshead, and even Tarpon making yearly appearances. You can get your fill of delicious Scallops here, while Spanish Mackerel and Bluefish can be found around the mouth of the Gulf County Canal.

Speaking of the canal, there’s plenty of freshwater species to target here. Catfish, Bass, and Bream are in abundance further up the freshwater streams, and even in the lakes just a short drive away from Port St. Joe.

Despite all this, the Gulf of Mexico is also tempting anglers just beyond the barrier peninsula. Take a charter from this spit of land, and you could be on some productive reefs within minutes. There are hundreds of underwater structures just a stone’s throw from shore, allowing you to target Snappers, Amberjack, Kingfish, Cobia, and much more within sight of land.

You’ll also have the chance to go offshore, but these charters will require at least 10 hours on the water. For all other trips, you can spend anywhere from a couple of hours to a full day getting your fix of fishing.

Reglas & Regulaciones

If you’re fishing aboard a Port St. Joe saltwater fishing charter, then your fishing license will be covered. Head out with a freshwater guide, however, and you’ll need to get your own. Whichever you choose, your professional companion will make sure you’re fishing within the law.

Enero
January is all about backwater fishing in Port St. Joe. With colder water temperatures in the bay, look for Redfish and Trout in the Intracoastal Waterway and Gulf County Canal. Live bait is the way to go in this weather.
Febrero

Winter fishing continues, with the best results coming from fishing deep in the backcountry waters. In the bay, Sheepshead are usually biting in good numbers. But watch out: these tasty fish are renowned for stealing bait!

Marzo

The waters and the fishing gradually start to warm up, just in time for Spring Break. Guides come back onto the water after a winter of hunting, and the bay starts to fill up with people on cruises and fishing charters.

Abril

The fishing gets better and better in Port St. Joe in the springtime. Redfish come out into the bay and are joined by big "Gator" Trout. Joining them come Pompano, Spanish Mackerel, Ladyfish, Bluefish, and Sharks.

Mayo

May could be one of the best times to fish these waters. The flats of the bay come alive with Redfish and Trout making for fun fishing, not to mention the incredible nearshore action along the reefs.

Junio

The impressive action on the flats continues, with Inshore Slams becoming common on charter trips. Tripletail is also being caught in good numbers. Meanwhile, Bull, Nurse, and Blacktip Sharks peruse the waterways.

Julio

As the waters warm, the Redfish and Trout action can quiet down a little on the flats. But with big Tarpon, Sharks, Jacks, Tripletail, and Spanish Mackerel all being caught nearshore, there are plenty of reasons to dip a line.

Agosto

Summer fishing is all about variety in these parts. While inshore fishing is as good as ever, there are also Snappers, Cobia, Amberjacks, and many more on the reefs and in the deep waters offshore.

Septiembre

September is prime time for scalloping in the grass beds of St. Joseph Bay. Make sure to bring your snorkeling gear if you come at this time of year, as the waters are just right for taking a dip. Fishing remains good, too.

Octubre

As the month progresses, colder conditions gradually start to set in. This is great news for anglers, who usually notice a much better bite from Redfish and Trout. With Flounder also available, it's Slam season once again.

Noviembre

Fall fishing is some of the best you can get in Port St. Joe. Look out for migrating Bull Redfish, as well as Speckled Trout, Black Drum, and Pompano. There's plenty to fill the freezer, and the action is hot, too.

Diciembre

As winter sets in, the fish start to move into deeper holes in the bay and backcountry. Live bait becomes the weapon of choice. As the small town winds down for winter, some guides turn to hunting rather than fishing.

Book at least an 8 hour trip and understand that Captains are not Jesus, they can't just speak to the fish and make them jump in the boat! It is called "Fishing" not "Catching" for a reason!

We came to Florida at a bad time of the year for most touristy things but Captain Taft was determined to make sure we all got to reel something in. 5 more minutes if we dont get a bite we are moving! Will definitely come back in a better season to go out with him again.

Captain Taft got us on fish despite the non-ideal conditions. We were a group of four and everyone caught fish and the the ladies out fished the men. Beyond the fishing we had a great time with Captain Taft and enjoyed the great conversation. We would recommend Captain Taft to anyone.

…was first class! Great equipment, excellent service while we fished. C Pete knows these waters and the fish like the back of his hand. My grandsons and my son-in-law loved the experience, and this was in November! Best of all, we had great results, surprisingly at this time of year. Thanks Captain Pete!

We had a blast! Captain Pete was awesome and knew exactly where the fish were at. I have been on plenty of charters but never caught as much fish or had as much fun. The boat was nice, clean, and had more then enough room. Defiantly recommend Rippin Lips. A trip to remember!

This is an outstanding charter service. We had an amazing day on the water, caught our limit of grouper, and action all day! More importantly, communication before and after the trip regarding timing, meeting and rescheduling was exceptional. A class act all the way. Cannot say enough great things about these guys. Highly recommend!

We came down on a Friday evening. Very windy and cool the next day. Another guide's clients canceled while we were at the boat ramp. We went out anyway, at our request. I had 3 novices to salt water fishing.. Captain Man put us on reds; sheepheads; pompano; trout and snapper. Photo does not show the ones we threw back because they were short.

Booked a 4 hour excursion. We had an amazing time. Harold was great about teaching all of us basic tips about casting, reeling, etc he was telling jokes and just made the most of the day. We ended up catching 25 fish. We would have been fine catching 2. Harold cleaned the fish, gave us some tips on preparing them. We ended up having fish tacos for dinner a a few lunches. It was better than a restaurant. Thanks so much.

We had a fabulous trip with Captain Harold fishing mostly for spotted trout and redfish. We also caught few small sharks (about 24 to 30 inches) and a lizardfish. Harold was pretty funny and a great teacher for our kids - 10 and 12 years old.

Captain Man put us right on the scallops! We pulled bag after bag of bay scallops onto the boat under the direction of the captain. After the trip we were taught how to perfectly clean the catch and even some cooking recommendations. 10/10 experience would recommend going out with this captain.
