Use a guide/charter service. The guide I used (Capt Joel with Bayou Country Charters) has a very nice boat that can get around the local waters with ease, and he knows the best locations to find and catch fish. Start the charter early in the day (we started at 6 AM) to avoid as much of the afternoon heat as possible.

Bring a good attitude and have fun! The Captains do their best and of course want you to catch fish but they can't force the fish to bite. So be a good sport. Catching does make your day more exciting though. Also, wish I would have applied more sunscreen. Ha

Easy access from the city and three state region. Dress in layers for the rides if it isn't sunny. We traveled 10 minutes in the boat to our spot and immediately were landing reds. The charter captain makes access and trip an enjoyable experience.

You will see a lot of wildlife. The natural gas mini rigs out on the water take a little getting used to. The houses on stilts were a trip. Treat yourself to lunch at Restaurant des Familles...the BBQ shrimp was out of this world. There's a dollar store across from the Piggly Wiggly if you need any last minute supplies.

I booked within a week of my trip and had to move it because of work and Christian was awesome with the change of plans. My son and I caught 2 limits of redfish in 2 hours. Wow!!! Be sure to ask for Jody “Jo” as a captain. He put us, and kept us on the reds. We’re booking again very soon!

Super happy with the trip that captain Harrison guided us on for my birthday, had some tough fishing conditions with lots of bouncing around trying to track down where the fish were hiding but capt Harrison was able to get it done and my wife, dad and my self still managed to pull out a solid amount of fish! Would absolutely recommend these guys for anyone and am super thankful they were able to fit us in on such short notice.
