Winter fishing continues in the Bay Area, with many charter boats making good use of the Delta as they scour the bottom for Sturgeon. The prime season for deep sea fishing is just around the corner.

Abril

The season for Lingcod and Rockfish typically opens in April. Salmon may be available as well, but you won’t find many of these fish in San Francisco Bay just yet, since most of them are still feeding offshore.

Mayo

With average temperatures hovering between 50-70°F, May is a wonderful time to get out on the water! The waters offshore are bustling with Salmon, Lingcod, and Rockfish. That’s a promise of a delicious dinner in the near future!

Junio

This is potluck season when you don’t know what you might reel in, but excitement is high! Salmon and Rockfish are appearing close to the coast, while Halis, Stripers, and White Seabass are abundant all over the place.

Julio

You can expect some of the hottest weather of the year in July, but that doesn’t stop anyone from hitting the water. Anglers are catching some of the biggest Salmon of the year, and the rest of the fish aren’t bad either!

Agosto

More and more Albacore Tuna are showing up and drawing anglers to the offshore fishing grounds. There’s no better time to experience the variety of the Bay than August when all the fish are biting vigorously.

Stellar fishing continues here in the Bay Area, along with mild weather and calm waters. Head offshore and land a Tuna, or explore the Bay and see what a little potlucking brings you.

Octubre

If you’ve had your fill of the Bay, try your luck in the local lakes and rivers instead. Salmon fishing is in full swing in the Sacramento River, with some real lunkers making their grand entrance.

Noviembre

Salmon are closed for harvest on the coast, but you can still catch them in Sac River through the end of the year. Some anglers will continue fishing the Bay, while others will head back to the Delta.

Diciembre

December is a great time for fishing if you don’t mind a little chill in the air! The Delta offers plenty of hard-fighting Sturgeon while the ocean holds Halibut, Lingcod, Rockfish, and Crab.

Not as good fishing conditions as other months, but you can still catch fish. We weren’t able to catch any fish from the dock on Bethel Island where we were staying but much of that was limited by stormy weather. On a bass charter we were able to catch 1 largemouth bass and 1 striped bass. In February fishing is OK but not as good as spring and summer.

Leaving from Fisherman's Wharf passing Alcatraz, seeing the sun come up over the east bay ills, watching the yacht regatta, passing all the freighters and cruise ships, going under the bridges, seeing the rising sun reflected off the skyscrapers; it's a gorgeous place to catch BIG fish.

Frank is a great guide with top shelf equipment and the Delta is a great spot for bass. The bite was off a bit, so we only boated a few decent-sized largemouth, but you can't control that. Overall, highly recommended.

This trip was a boys trip to San Francisco and we decided to go fishing with Captain David. Fate has it that his deck hand was the same deck hand that helped me pick crabs at the start of crab season. The equipment was top rate, the boat was comfortable, and the instruction was clear. We walked away with more than enough fish, including a nice size halibut. Good eating!!!

Fantastic day fishing!!! The best day of fishing my son and I have ever had. Captain was awesome. Put us on fish everywhere we went. Beautiful scenery and we laughed and talked all day. The sturgeon were biting and OH my goodness do they fight!!! Great trip and I highly recommend a trip with Captain John!!! The boat is fantastic very comfortable. The trip was definitely a 10 out 10.

My two sons wanted to catch something in the bay, especially leopard shark. Weather was windy and water conditions muddy. However, Dave and Neil were great and got us into sharks despite the poor conditions. My boys had a wonderful experience. We would definitely fish with them again!

We caught so many fish within the first hour. Captain took us to a spot that didn’t disappoint. The crew was amazing. Very helpful and even gave us some historical facts of monuments near by. Captain and First mate were extremely friendly and funny. Both did the impossible to have kept us comfortable and happy. It was an amazing unforgettable memory. Thank you for everything.
