Pesca en North Georgia

Fishing in North Georgia is the ultimate freshwater experience every serious angler should have on their to-do list. The northern part of the “Peach State” is nationally known as one of the best areas for Bass fishing. Local lakes offer at least five species of Bass, while creeks and rivers have unparalleled Trout fly fishing. Consistent water temperatures keep the fish active throughout the year, which means that fishing here never stops. Whenever you choose to book a trip, you’ll have the chance to earn your bragging rights.

When to Go

Despite this area’s year-round fishing season, some months naturally have better fishing opportunities. Bass and Walleye fishing is best in spring. The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service makes sure Trout numbers stay the same and starts the yearly stocking in March. Trout are present in high numbers all the way to November, so fall may be a better option if you’re targeting Trout specifically.

Where to Go

One of the most popular spots is Blue Ridge because you can find everything North Georgia fishing offers in one place. You can target Catfish, Walleye, and several Bass types in Blue Ridge Lake. Trout fishing instead? The Toccoa River is close by and has amazing fly fishing spots that will surely help you land a Trout or two.

You’ll also find great fishing guides based near Carters Lake, or you can choose to take a trip through the creeks around Ellijay. The trips can be adjusted to your angling skills, just ask your guide. If you’re not that experienced, you can go to more fully-stocked creeks, where you’ll have more chances of landing a fish, even if you’re fly fishing for the first time.

Need to Know

  • All anglers ages 16 or over need to have a valid Georgian fishing license. You also need a Trout fishing license if you intend to keep it. Regulations vary from one county to another, so you can learn more once you choose your destination.

  • All fishing guides will provide you with rods and reels. If you’re planning to go fly fishing, check with your captain first if fly fishing equipment is provided.

  • If you’re going on a wading trip, make sure to have a quality pair of boots and chest-high waders ready.

Experienced anglers and beginners alike can enjoy the amazing action this area offers. Whether you’re here to learn fly fishing, battle weighty Catfish, or catch a trophy-sized Bass, you’ll never forget your North Georgia fishing adventure.

North Georgia Temporadas de Pesca

January
The beginning of the year is a great time to target schools of Hybrid Bass. Watch for gulls diving and you’ve found your best fishing spot.

February
February is one of the best months to target Largemouth Bass, especially if you want a trophy-sized one. You may not get many bites, so make them count.

March
Crappie are moving toward spawning areas and you’ll easily get them in the areas under bridges. Catfish move to shallow waters.

April
As the temperature rises, there’s more action in the water. It’s Striper spawning season. In local lakes, you’ll also find great numbers of Walleye.

May
Head out to the lake before it gets too hot and target Bass. They feed voraciously on spawning blueback herring. Maybe visit Carters Lake?

June
You can target Catfish in shallow water areas that are right next to deep water. If you’re after Bass, get ready for some topwater action.

July
As the weather gets hot, it’s comfortable to stay in secluded areas. Go on a wading trip, where you’ll be safe from the sun in the fresh breeze of the forest.

August
Never been fly fishing? Now is the time! Find a guide who will take you after different types of Trout and learn to land them in a new way.

September
Target some Hybrids with small topwater poppers or spoons. This is also a good time to catch Walleye, as it’s harder to find them when it gets cold.

October
Head out to Blue Ridge Lake! This place offers the best chance to catch Smallmouth Bass. Use small bait on deep rocky points.

November
This is a great time to target Rainbow and Brook Trout. Prepare your fly fishing equipment and visit one of numerous creeks around Ellijay or the Toccoa River.

December
End the year with great Trout fishing. Whether you’re casting off on the fly or spinning, it’s a trip you’ll enjoy and remember.
