Frequently Asked Questions about Fishing Charters in Oregon Coast
Pesca en Oregon Coast
Looking to experience some seriously diverse fishing opportunities? Hop aboard one of the Beaver State’s many Oregon Coast fishing charters. With 350 miles of Pacific coastline to explore, as well as a whole host of bays, estuaries, rivers, and coastal lakes, there’s no end to the angling possibilities on offer here.
The Oregon Coast provides access to both saltwater and freshwater fisheries, which means you can target a diverse number of fish. The Pacific Ocean, or one of its many bays such as Coos, Tillamook, Nestucca, and Yaquina, could see you hooking into Chinook Salmon, Rockfish, Halibut, Seabass, Tuna, Striped Bass, Lingcod, and even Crab. Depending on the species you’re targeting, you’ll likely be trolling the ocean or bottom fishing for huge, deep sea monsters!
Then there’s the freshwater fishing. The mighty Columbia River winds its way past the Oregon Coast, and is a world-famous Salmon fishing spot. Both Coho and Chinook varieties can be targeted. In the summer, trophy Sturgeon appear. You can also cast a line in smaller rivers, such as the Umpqua, for Cutthroat Trout and Walleye, and Tenmile Lake is known for its incredible Bass fishery. Freshwater trips usually last anywhere from a half day to a full day out on the water.
Picking a departure point along the Oregon Coast depends on where you want to fish and what you want to catch. Astoria is perfect for anglers who want to explore the ocean and bays, and it heats up with Salmon fishers around Buoy 10 in fall. Portland is popular with Columbia River fishers. Charters around Coos Bay provide excellent bottom fishing opportunities. Basically, wherever you want to fish, you’ll find an experienced local guide waiting to take you out!
Any angler age 12+ wanting to explore the Oregon Coast will need a valid Oregon fishing license. If you’re fishing in the Columbia River or its tributaries, you’ll also need a valid Columbia River Basin Endorsement.
