What to Expect

From the reservoirs of the Midwest to the bays of the East Coast, Stripers are loved for their game and dinner qualities. Experienced anglers relish the chance to do battle with these creatures, testing their fishing skills to the max and landing a tasty reward. And Arkansas is no different!

Whether fishing in Lake Ouachita, Norfork Lake, Beaver Lake, or the Arkansas or Mississippi Rivers, you’ll have the chance to get your hands on trophy-sized creatures. Head on foot along the mountain streams or hop aboard a boat with a guide, and you’ll get to test out a range of fishing techniques to lure them onto the end of your line. Try fly fishing, bait casting, and even trolling on some of the deeper waters, and you’ll be sure to land yourself at least one treat.

When to Go

One of the best things about Striper fishing in Arkansas is that it’s possible every day of the year. Under the guidance of a knowledgeable guide or captain, you’ll know exactly where to target them, as they migrate to different spots depending on the weather.

These much-loved creatures like the warm water, so come in summer for the best results. But don’t worry if it’s winter, you’ll just need to up your game! When the weather’s cold, you’ll want to fish the tops of shallow bodies of water, where the Stripers now hunt.

How to Prepare

If you’re going out with a fishing guide, chances are that you’ll have all the gear provided. Check with the operator if they provide fly fishing gear, if that’s more your thing, as you may need to bring your own.

Other than that, all you’ll need to do before going fishing for Stripers in Arkansas is to grab an AR fishing license and stock up on plenty of drinks and snacks to make the most of your day out. Why not make Arkansas your next destination for a thrilling freshwater fishing experience?

Be ready for some great fishing, but the weather will be very unpredictable. We had a lot of rain but I was dressed for it.

Drop shotting with live crickets caught us at least 6 different species of fish. Seeing as I'd never fished this lake before I opted to hire a guide. Another good idea is to question the locals. Local bait shops can provide great references. If you don't have access to a boat there is a good chance the locals can refer you to a good bank fishing spot.

We had a 3 day trip on the lake. Weather was great, but the wind kept us from hitting our spots.
