Where and When to Go
The beauty of fishing for Salmon in Washington is that it’s ubiquitous all year round. From the Pacific shores to the heart of the Columbia River, there’s never a bad time or a bad place to go fishing.
Puget Sound
This world-famous waterway is overflowing with Salmon. The Puget Sound stretches over 100 miles from north to south, offering plenty of fishing opportunities along the way. Step aboard a charter in Edmunds, Seattle, Bremerton, Tacoma, and many more to get your fill of fishing.
You’ll find exciting fishing yearround, as Chinook – or “Blackmouth” as they’re known here – fill the waters in the winter, while Coho populates the Sound in Summer. While some species have been overfished, especially around the San Juan Islands, there’s still plenty of Salmon to go around. Try trolling or jigging, and get ready for a thrilling day out.
Columbia River
While it may no longer be the world’s largest Salmon producer, the Columbia River still yields plenty of exciting fishing. From the border with Oregon all the way to the Pacific, there’s a range of fishing grounds to explore along this world-famous river.
As the season heats up in spring, the Kings will make their way from the Olympic peninsula in great numbers. Head out in summer to catch that trophy-sized monster! Before the season comes to an end, the south-western waters of the Columbia River are the place to be, as the final Salmon run of the year continues up ‘til November.
Pacific Ocean
It’s impossible to discuss Salmon fishing in Washington state without mentioning the Pacific. Located west of the state, these rich waters come alive in summer. Departing out of Westport, Sekiu, and many other ports, you’ll head to the honey holes up to 15 miles offshore to battle it out with monster King and delicious Coho Salmon. Work up a sweat against these beasts and land a worthy reward to take home.
