A Missouri Walleye fishing adventure is not to be missed. You might have heard about this area’s Blue Ribbon Trout fishing, or even the great Bass opportunities, but don’t underestimate the tasty Walleye. You might hook him by accident, but once you’ve tasted your catch, you’ll be on the lookout for more!
What to Expect
Some of the best places to target Walleye here include Table Rock Lake, Meramec River, Black River, Truman Reservoir, Mark Twain Lake, Smithville Reservoir, and plenty more. The fall and spring months offer some of the best fishing opportunities, but Walleye fishing is very productive in the winter, too.
Walleye are not fans of bright light – early in the mornings and during the evenings they’ll come into shallow water, but during the day you’ll need to head into deeper waters to find them. Unless you’re fishing with a highly experienced guide, you’ll need a fishfinder on board to help locate them.
Depending on the time of year and which body of water you’re fishing in, your trip could last anywhere between 2–8 hours. Lakes are best for shorter trips that are newbie-friendly, and the rivers here are perfect for longer trips.
How to Prepare
Everyone over 16 will need to buy a fishing license before the trip begins. In Missouri, there's a daily limit and catch size requirement for Walleye, as well as certain time restrictions for when they can be caught. Your guide will be able to tell you all about these local regulations, so get in touch before your trip.
It’s good to check with your guide before the trip to see if food and drinks are provided or whether you should bring your own. You’ll generally be provided with all the fishing gear you need for your day on the water.
Everyone is welcome to come down and try and out the Missouri Walleye fishing available – one bite and you’ll be hooked!
