I had a great experience in Puerto Rico fishing with Capt Yorman Sierra of Bayside Charters. I happen to live on saltwater and fish quite often. I also have started making a habit of booking a charter whenever I can while on vacation. With that being said, I can discern when a local Capt knows how to get on fish and also when they appear to be motivated to do so.

Capt Yorman set the expectations and delivered on a day that initially seemed less than ideal for fishing. After losing at least 3 fish and getting almost spooled by a shark, we ended up putting 5 different species on the boat including a few Jacks, a Snook, King Mackerel, and even a Remora. While we did not see, or get a Tarpon, it absolutely was not for lack of effort. Capt Yorman pulled out every stop to get me on fish this day and especially worked everything to get us to a Tarpon. However, what I enjoyed the most about this entire trip was Yorman himself, he was warm, attentive, and also provided me what I always hope to get from a charter Capt, and that is some education. He is definitely a master of his craft.

Needless to say, I had a great experience with Capt Yorman and Bayside Charters and would recommend them and Capt Yorman.

We had a great experience for our first time fishing on a boat with Luis. Everything was prepared by him before we got there, and he knew of several spots to try for fish. He landed us a 15 lb snook that my 5 year old had a fantastic time reeling in. Luis also went to great length to make sure my 8 year old still had a great time despite not catching anymore fish, (that’s how it goes- great lesson in patience while fishing). All in all, this was a great experience for my kids and a memorable one we will always treasure.

We didn’t catch anything, but the captain did stay out an extra half hour and took us to the side of the fort for a picture. It could have just been the time of year and too hot for the fish, but would have been nice to have other lure/bait options to try.

We were lucky to be able to book on short notice. The trip included my wife, son, his best friend, and myself. We were running a little behind because of snorkeling but Luis (not Jr. or Sr.) was very understanding. The boys each caught fish; in addition, we got a great tour of the bay and excellent views of the old fort in San Juan. The cooler was stocked with iced cold soda and bottled water and the Captain/guide was patient and informative with my boys. We were fortunate to have caught fish during the trip, but being on the water and the guided tour around the bay would have made the trip worthwhile regardless.  So, whereas I did not get the opportunity to meet the owners (Jr. or Sr.), their compatriot was well versed in handling four folks from Ohio.
