My son and I went for a 3/4 day trip and initially were thinking of doing more inshore fishing, but Gerald advised us that the inshore fishing had been tough lately.  So we opted to go deep. We made the right choice. In the morning we hooked up on a beautiful sailfish, a giant triple tail and a mahi mahi. Gerald’s experience shone through as he found a large piece of floating bamboo that baitfish, triple tails and the mahi-mahi were congregated around. He was able to distract the large school of trigger fish with pieces of bait and that allowed us to target the giant triple tail that we landed.  In the short afternoon we decided to switch it up and do some bottom fishing and Gerald put us on some grouper and we landed one. 

The boat itself (Boston Whaler) was nothing fancy and quite old, but it did the trick. We were appreciative of the Bimini that gave us shelter from the punishing sun. 

Roy and Louise were so nice and greeted us at the start and end of the trip.  Louis’ sandwiches and homemade granola bars were delicious! 

It was an outstanding day and one of the best fishing charters we have done.

This was a fishing experience of a lifetime! We were met at the beach meeting point by Roy and Louise who were very kind.  The Captain and First mate were highly experienced and extremely professional. We fished with our two kids 14 and 13 who have a lot of experience fishing back home but this was their first time fishing in Costa Rican pacific waters. My daughter landed the first Mahi and my son pulled in a blue Marlin!!!  It was beyond exciting!! The ocean was so alive with fish - we saw dolphin, flying fish and even a whale spout!  The crew never stopped working and made our trip one of the most memorable fishing experiences of our lives. Booked a private charter with Captain Gerald during our vacation to Playa de Coco in 2022. Gerald put my friend and I on the mahi-mahi shortly after we drove a few miles offshore. We hooked 5 mahi that were over 20 lbs Gerald did an excellent job cleaning our catches after caught them. On the way back to shore, we managed to hook a large sailfish while trolling jigs. That sailfish was the biggest fish I have caught in my life. It is easy to say that this was the most successful/fun fishing charter I have been on.

The staff were polite and friendly. Roy, took the time to sit down with us and socialize while we enjoyed eating our fresh mahi fillets that were prepared at the El Chiringuito Restuarant.

We had a great trip fishing with Roy and his crew. As fishing is measured, we caught 5 Mahi all 30-45 lbs and 2 smaller tuna around 20 lbs. Roy is amazing company on the boat and his crew (Cheyenne and Manuel) worked extremely hard all day to find fish. Well coordinated effort beared some nice fruit and it was fun speaking to Roy on his experiences both fishing and his prior corporate life. The boat comfortable fit 5 adults and provided shade. Roy had plenty of beer and snacks for us to enjoy and even filleted some sashimi with the tuna. We had one Marlin in the teaser but never hooked up. We will certainly fish with this crew again when we make it back to Tamarindo. Thanks Roy!

My wife and I had a fantastic time out on the water.  The boat has fantastic amounts of shade.
Gerald the captain, well, the guy knows how to fish, and it’s clear he loves to fish. The boat was extremely well organized, the gear fantastic, and the selection of prerigged ballyhoo and lures was fantastic.  Gerald worked his ass off changing baits as we trolled over different territories. This is a professionally run outfit run by really nice people who love their work. 

If you want to have a great time on a great small boat with a great captain and people who obviously care about your experience than this is the boat for you. If you need a larger boat for more people their other boat will suit you well.

Don’t hesitate to book these folks and your shot of catching that elusive blue Marlin, or a blue Dorado,
Booking these folks will increase your odds over other boats in the fleet down here.

If you are debating going out between flamingo and tamarindo, tamarindo is closer to the grounds and you spend a lot less time paying for travel. Do it in your car.
