Background
Captain Vinnie operates the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and has worked aboard other boats in the area all his life. He loves being out on the water and getting groups on awesome fish. His favorite fish to catch is Black Grouper, but a huge part of what makes fishing so fun for him is never knowing what is going to bite next. This is what makes bottom fishing so fun for him - you can never tell what will take your bait!
Techniques
Here in south Florida there are so many different species of fish to catch, some of my favorite things to do include trolling, wreck fishing, and live baiting. All three of these techniques are well known and do produce big fish and plenty of fish as well as different types of fish too. Trolling is a good way to start your day off beacause you are able to cover ground and find where the fish are, live baiting is a good way to fish for lots of trophy sized fish like sailfish and and giant king mackerel as well as big bull dolphin. Wreck fishing is a good way to switch it up if your other techniques are not working and still be able to land some large fish like amberjack and grouper, sometimes you can also have a surprise catch like cobia as well.

Fishing Reports

Variety In Fort Lauderdale
Variety In Fort Lauderdale
Feb 25, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week we have a good report with some excellent photos of some recent fish we have been catching. This weeks theme is variety, I say that because we have had a lot of of different types of fish we have been catching. As of recent the reef has been producing nice catches of blackfin tuna and some very nice sized ones at that which makes me to believe this spring coming up should be a very fishy one at that. As well as tuna on the reefs there has also been some occasional wahoo in the same area as well, we have been catching the wahoo while we are trolling for tuna primarily on our down lines fished with planers. Seawhiches with bonito strips has been the ticket for tuna and wahoo they tend to prefer darker colored baits as well. Bottom fishing has began to start heating up also which is always a great option if trolling is slow, snowy groupers have been biting on some of the deeper spots while using cut baits like squid or fresh bonito, snowy grouper is in my opinion one of the best eaten fish in the ocean and can be cooked a variety of ways and still taste great, there have been a few vermillion snappers also on the deeper shipwrecks as well, as spring approaches we should see the wreck fishing begin to heat up with lots of amberjacks and big groupers waiting to be caught. Last but not least we have been doing some slow pitch jjigging charters in the Fort Lauderdale with much success, snowy groupers as well as tilefish and another great fish to eat that we don't catch often is the Atlantic bonito similar to the little tunny that we call bonito here but the meat is pink in color and very very good sushi. Fishing has been very good as of late and should continue to improve even more as march rolls around so stay tuned for more great fishing reports. We do have some availability coming up so if your looking to go fishing now is the time, As always check out our great photos this week of some awesome catches we had, remember to follow us on Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing and like us on facebook for daily fishing videos and reports. Daytime Swordfishing In Fort Lauderdale
Daytime Swordfishing In Fort Lauderdale
Feb 16, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt Vinnie here, this week we have a great report something very different and very special I would like to share with all of you. Recently we had an all day charter scheduled and with fishing being a little slow I had called our client and asked him what he thought about going offshore and taking a gamble on trying to catch a swordfish at first he was skeptical and hesitant but I assured him that he should pay off and he went with my judgement, The crew of the Yb Normal out of fort Lauderdale loaded up the boat around 430am as we would depart at 5am on our deep sea fishing adventure in hopes of catching a broadbill swordfish. To target swordfish out of Fort Lauderdale you have to go offshore around 18 miles to get to around 2,000 feet of water. We put some lines out on our way in hopes of catching some fresh bait which was successful we caught 2 skipjack tuna which we had rigged up for bait for swordfishng, our first drift was in 1800 feet and lasted around 2 hours in the daytime you use an electric reel to fish these depths and 12 pounds of weight to stay on the bottom, after our first drift not a bite so we shortly reset a little deeper we did another 2 hour drift with high hopes in getting a bite but with music playing and calm seas everyone was just enjoying there time on the water until maximum chaos once we got a fish on, after 2 long drifts with no bites we decided to set up one more time some where different after 1 hour and everyone fading on there hopes of getting a bite suddenly we would get the bite we had been waiting all day for!! once coming tight with the fish we would begin to fight him inch by inch in hopes of seeing this beast after a 40min fight we would obtain color and sink a harpoon in his side as well as 2 more gaffs at this point the battle was won a buzzer beater of a fish at the last second when we were ready to go home. Defiantly one to remember forever, lots of cheering and celebration on this accomplishment literally the feeling of hitting the jackpot, on our ride in to the sunset we were all in good spirits and high hopes once arriving to the dock we would unload the fish and take plenty of pictures to remember this day. Please check out our great photos of this epic fish we caught more reports to come soon but remember we have some availability coming up so please come out fishing with us we would love to make a memory that will last forever just like this one and as always follow us on instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing and like us on facebook for daily fishing reports and videos! tight lines Capt. Charter Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Charter Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Feb 11, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here... man what a report I have for you guys this week. Lets get right to it, as of late trolling for pelagic fish in Fort Lauderdale has been some what slow, but bottom fishing has been where its at and thats what we are know for!! Fishing deeper shipwrecks as well as small rock piles off the coast of Fort Lauderdale have been producing some quality fish. Snowy grouper as well as giant amberjacks and snappers of all colors and sizes have been the main target as of late. Targeting these bottom dwellers fresh bait is key we have been trolling for small bonito to use as cut bait as well as squid works too. Some of the spots we are targeting are in 600 feet of water so conditions are important to be able to set up on a spot correctly. We use a multiple hook rig called a chicken rig when fishing for snappers but when targeting bigger fish like grouper or amberjack a single larger bait seems to be more effective. Another technique that has become quite popular in fort Lauderdale and around the world is slow pitch jigging, we have been doing some of these trips with great results, a lot of the times in the heat of the day the tuna go down to the depths and trolling your baits are on the surface really, where jigging you can send lures to the bottom where the fish are feeding during the heat of the day. While jigging we have also been doing well on amberjack, rose fish and snowy grouper, jigging is a great tool to have in your arsenal when fishing is slow. Lots of great photos this week of some great catches as well as a snowy grouper around 30lbs one of my favorite fish to eat, I also have some great photos from our recent jigging trip with a variety of species we captured all great eating. As far as a night time fishing report I do not have one I have not been out at night recently but im sure the fish will bite, February is a great month for snapper day and nigh time. anyways this week we have some availability and would love to get you out fishing in Fort Lauderdale with us, remember to follow us on instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing and follow us on facebook for daily fishing reports and videos. Tight lines! Capt. Vinnie

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here just like the title says "Fort Lauderdale is Producing"! Lets get to it... As of late the fishing has been very somewhat hit and miss up until this point the fishing the last few days has been very good comparable to early spring time fishing, we have been catching tuna, wahoo, as well as a few sailfish and big game sharks. The morning charters have been slow and I think it is due to the moon being full, a lot of times when the moon is full fish feed during the night time because they are able to see very well with the brightness of the moon. Morning charters have been producing a few bonito and very few blackfin tuna, some bottom fishing in the mornings has been the best way to put a few fish in the box. The afternoons have been some of the best fishing we have had, like I stated earlier about the moon making fish not want to feed in the mornings the later afternoons have turned them on, the tuna bite has been incredible in the later afternoons, tuna have large eyes and tend to bite best in low light conditions when the sun is high it makes them go down in the depths but in low light conditions they move up in the water column to feed and then we can target them, we have been doing best trolling for these fish just offshore of the drop off in Fort Lauderdale, Trolling with planners has been very effective with bonito strips and seawitches. surface baits have been small feathers fished very far behind the boat as well as small squid skirts with mylar inserts. While fishing for tunas and being offshore there is always a good chance for a wahoo and we did catch a beautiful one this week on a planner with a seawitch and bonito strip. Wahoo are one of the fastest fish and one of the best to eat, not to mention one of my favorite to catch. Bottom fishing this week in Fort Lauderdale has been hit and miss when conditions are right and by that I mean some current and calm waters so that you are able to set up on a spot according there has been some very nice size yellow eye snapper as well as some vermillion snapper also a few snowy grouper we did catch this week while bottom fishing. Shark fishing for big game sharks is just starting to heat up and should continue to get better as February and march approach. Check out some of the great photos we have this week of some great catches, hopefully you can be there next week anyways some availability next week so please come out fishing with us the fish are biting, As always remember to follow us on instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing and like us on facebook for daily fishing reports, tight lines see you out on the water! more later... Big Game Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Big Game Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Ene 22, 2021 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here this weeks report is going to be a little different then normal. The fishing this last week has been hit and miss but there has been a few fish around biting, so lets get to it, this week fishing on the reef has been somewhat slow with few fish being caught, there has been some king mackeral around here and there as well as a few small bonito, moving offshore there has been a few small blackfin tuna but no report for mahi as of now. One thing that has been biting and may not be for everyone is sharks! There have been lots of hammerhead sharks around to catch as of late, even though sharks may not be something to take home and eat they are a great way to bend the rod on something large, the shark fishing in Fort Lauderdale begins to pick up here shortly and a great chance to catch one almost every trip. The most common shark we catch is hammerhead shark that being said there are lots of other species we do catch off the coast of Fort Lauderdale like bull sharks, tiger sharks, thresher sharks, as well as the occasional mako shark. The best way to set up for shark fishing in fort Lauderdale is you want to find current first that way the current can take your sent and a shark can find it, we also like to set up in deeper water where there is a temperature change in the daytime the sharks tend to go deep and lay on the bottom in the cooler water, fishing with wire leaders is a must due to the sharks teeth they can cut through regular mono leaders, some of the sharks we do catch can be large in upwards of 12 feet, we use heavy tackle, size 80 reels with 100lb line some of the fights can last up to 3 hours so you have to be ready for anything. Like I stated earlier shark fishing is a great way to catch something large and really get the full experience of true big game fishing in Fort Lauderdale. For a night fishing report this week snapper fishing has been decent on the shallower reefs in 40 foot, most of the snapper we are catching right now are mangrove with a few yellowtail mixed in, chumming heavy has been best to catch them but you need current to catch them not every night there has been current so some nights can be tougher then others, the fishing should improve in the next week or so, if your thinking about fishing in fort Lauderdale we would love to have you, plenty of availability coming up as well, remember to follow us on instagram @ybnormalsportfishing and like us on facebook for daily fishing reports. tight lines Capt. Vinnie
Winter In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, pretty good report this week for you guys but I must say a little on the chilly side for us here in Fort Lauderdale Florida, we have seen a few days with temps as low as 46 degrees thats cold for us maybe not cold for our guests though, anyways lets get to the report, This week overall fishing has been somewhat decent seems everyday there are quality fish to catch you put the time in to get them, fishing on the reef has produced bonito as well as some kingfish, fishing planers has been the best way to get bites, using ballyhoo on the planers as well as small spoons has been the best way to get some action, just off the reef if you can find the edge there has been wahoo, one of my favorite fish to catch and eat. When we refer to the edge that is where the gulfstream water meets and forms a tide line with northern current, usually on the edge there is clean blue gulfstream water and strong current. Fishing around this is a great place to locate pelagic fish like wahoo, mahi mahi, as well as sailfish. You never know what you will catch in the deep so you always have to be ready. In the afternoons there has been a pretty good blackfin tuna bite. Tuna have very good eye sight and big eyes so low light conditions are always best for them. Be sure to check out some of the great photos we have this week of Steve and his Dad with some great wahoo and blackfin tuna they caught on a recent deep sea fishing charter out of beautiful Fort Lauderdale Florida. Anyways we do have some availbitly this week so if you do come to Fort Lauderdale please look us up and come fishing you will enjoy it. As always remember to follow us on instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing reports... more later Capt. Vinnie
