Background
Captain Vinnie operates the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and has worked aboard other boats in the area all his life. He loves being out on the water and getting groups on awesome fish. His favorite fish to catch is Black Grouper, but a huge part of what makes fishing so fun for him is never knowing what is going to bite next. This is what makes bottom fishing so fun for him - you can never tell what will take your bait!
Techniques
Here in south Florida there are so many different species of fish to catch, some of my favorite things to do include trolling, wreck fishing, and live baiting. All three of these techniques are well known and do produce big fish and plenty of fish as well as different types of fish too. Trolling is a good way to start your day off beacause you are able to cover ground and find where the fish are, live baiting is a good way to fish for lots of trophy sized fish like sailfish and and giant king mackerel as well as big bull dolphin. Wreck fishing is a good way to switch it up if your other techniques are not working and still be able to land some large fish like amberjack and grouper, sometimes you can also have a surprise catch like cobia as well.

Fishing Reports

Cold Fronts In Fort Lauderdale
Cold Fronts In Fort Lauderdale
Ene 30, 2024 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone, this weeks fishing in Fort Lauderdale has been hit and miss some days better then others but there has still been a few quality fish to catch if you are lucky. This week trolling has been somewhat productive for fish like blackfin tuna and sailfish, working the depths from 160 on out to 350 feet has been where most of the trolling action has been. Strip baits have been giving us the best success lately fished on the surface for fish like sailfish and on the deeper lines using planners for the black fin tuna. Recently we just came off of a full moon so there has been some wahoo around which I would say is probably the best fish that you could catch right now. Another successful fishing technique has been kite fishing with live bait, this is the primary way to target sailfish right now but while fishing with live bait that opens doors to catch a variety of different predator species. We have been catching some larger king fish with live bait up to 30lbs as well as sailfish. The shark fishing has began to improve with the most of the catch being hammerheads and sandbar sharks with some exotic sharks in the mix like this tiger shark "pictured" that we recently caught and released. All in all some days have been better then others but thats fishing not everyday is going to be a slay fest you have to take what the ocean gives you and even a slow day of fishing can turn around in minutes. Right now there is a cold front sitting on us for the next few days and it seems this time of year that when you have steady conditions for a few days in a row thats what makes the fishing very very good so this week I was presume we are going to have some great fishing coming up here, specially for sailfish. Anyways this week please be sure to check out some of the recent photos of some fish caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters including and underwater photo of a tiger shark. Also if you get a chance give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing and you can see what we are catching day to day. Looks like some great weather for the week we have availability as well so if your looking to do some deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale we would love to have you. Capt. Vinnie

Great January Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Great January Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Ene 22, 2024 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week we continue the theme like last week with some great fishing in Fort Lauderdale specially for the month of January. This weeks report will start out with the trolling bite which has been excellent, on the edge of the reef there has been plenty of bonito to catch which is a little odd for this time of the year but hey I'm not complaining, also a few king mackeral have been biting in the early mornings. Out in the deep trolling has been producing some really nice wahoo lately which in my opinion is probably the best fish you can catch on a fishing charter out of Fort Lauderdale, they have awesome colors and taste excellent cooked or raw as sushi, following up with the wahoo there has been some pretty consistent blackfin tuna action which is always great to see and thats the reason that the wahoo are here as well because wahoo eat the tuna. Last but not least there has been some sailfish action on trolling baits as well and a mahi mahi every now and again. I would say the best bet to try and catch something really substantial would be to go kite fishing with live baits, although fishing with a kite using live baits is not going to be that red hot action with bite after bite the fish that you do hook is going to be quality or quantity. Larger blackfin tuna and larger king mackerel have been eating the live baits fished from a kite and the fish have been in the 20-30lb class. Also we can't forget that sailfish is the primary target when kite fishing but it is good to see that the other fish are willing to eat the live baits too. We should start to see some big game sharks making there move right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale so that is something to look forward to in the next coming weeks as well as wreck fishing picking up for hard fighting fish like amberjacks. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches that were caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters right here in Fort Lauderdale and remember to follow us on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Its been a little windy the past few days but the wind looks to be dying down the next few days so if your looking to do some deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale this weekend would be a good one to do so we would love to show you a good time out on the water. More later.... Capt. Vinnie

January Catches In Fort Lauderdale
January Catches In Fort Lauderdale
Ene 10, 2024 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a great start to the year we have been having on the last few trips this week so that means a solid report for you guys. Starting inshore this week its been somewhat windy so bottom fishing has been out of the question here but usually when the water is churned up the pelagic fish tend to bite and thats exactly what happened. Inshore this week on the edge of the reef there has been some larger king mackeral as well as some larger bonitos, trolling has been somewhat slow on the kingfish and bonito but kite fishing with live bait has been producing fairly well right now. Live goggle eye has been the bait of choice and any depth inside of 180 feet has been a great place to start, kite fishing is primarily to target game fish like sailfish but it has been producing some kingfish up to 20lbs and some larger bonitos and a few smaller sharks as well. On the offshore side of things seems that the afternoon has been best lately as the wahoo bite has been on fire for the last few days. Trolling in depths from 200-350 feet of water has been where the wahoo have been and mixed in as a bycatch has been some quality blackfin tuna as well, normally when we start to see tuna as a daily catch the wahoo are not far behind. Last but not least there has been a few mahi mahi in the mix although they are primarily a seasonal fish and tend to bite best in summer we have been catching a few lately due to all the windy days we have been having. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches we have caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters out of Fort Lauderdale including a 56lb wahoo (pictured). Also remember to give us a like and a follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. As we approach mid January something coming up that is exciting is sharks and some big ones at that, February is the start of our big game shark fishing so that is something to look forward to as well as the blackfin tuna action picking up and sailfish to. If your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing look us up we would love to show you a good time on the water... Capt. Vinnie

Starting 2024 Right In Fort Lauderdale
Starting 2024 Right In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, I hope everyone had a great holidays and a happy new year! Here at the YB Normal in Fort Lauderdale we have had a very busy holiday weekend with lots and lots of fishing, so I have a great report this week. Starting out inshore there has been an excellent Spanish mackeral bite close to shore in depths around 25 to 30 feet of water just outside the first reef. Small feathers and spoons have been working best and trolling a little quicker seems to be the best way to catch the larger mackeral. Also mixed in with the mackerel there has been some smaller bonitos and a few yellow jacks as well, the mackeral bite has been much better in the later afternoons then the mornings. Moving out to the edge of the reef there has been a few kingfish early in the mornings while trolling as well as some larger bonitos and blackfin tuna. Trolling with baits below the surface has been the best. The sailfish action has been steady as well. Live baiting with live ballyhoo on light tackle spin rods has been a great way in order to get a finicky sailfish to bite and some of the larger blackfin tuna that are in the area. Moving out into the deep there has been a few wahoo biting early in the mornings due to the full moon we just had, a natural color lure like something blue and white is a good choice right now and trolling over deeper shipwrecks makes for a good combination if your looking to target a wahoo. Right now there are lots of options of different species biting right off the coast of fort lauderdale specially if your looking to go out deep sea fishing. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches we had while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. Some great weather and some good fishing right now make for a great reason to come down to fort Lauderdale and see us plenty of availability for the 2024 season so make your reservations now. Capt. Vinnie

Christmas Week In Fort Lauderdale
Christmas Week In Fort Lauderdale
Dic 25, 2023 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone Capt Vinnie here, fishing this week has made some improvements over last weeks hit and miss so we will get right into it, this week in Fort Lauderdale seems that the mornings have been pretty productive there has been some kingfish and bonito action right on the edge of the reef starting in depths at 90 feet on out to 150 feet trolling planers down with fresh bonito strips has been key in order to get bites. Also there has been a few sailfish in the mix, you can catch sailfish trolling but the best way as of late is kite fishing, suspending live bait from a kite has been a great way to entice a finicky sailfish to take your bait. The live bait of choice being goggle eyes is a great bait fish that is very energetic, while kite fishing you are not limited to just sailfish any fish that is a predator will go after a live bait. Moving offshore there has been some mahi and a few tuna in the mix, the mahi have been somewhat random while trolling but if you do find a few birds you definitely will find them. Tunas have been showing up in the afternoons over shipwrecks in depths from 200 to 400 feet as well, not many wahoo right now but with the full moon approaching I would imagine there is a good chance to catch a few. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches we had while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. The weather looks to be lighting up wind wise so should be a great week also we have availability for the rest of the week some if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing look us up we would love to have you. Happy Holidays Capt. Vinnie

Windy Week In Fort Lauderdale
Windy Week In Fort Lauderdale
Dic 12, 2023 Fort Lauderdale
Hello everyone, Capt.Vinnie here. I know it has been a little while since my last report we have been working on the boat in the boat yard and making alot of very nice upgrades and improvements to the YB Normal. Also this week it has been pretty windy and rough and not much fishing but I do have a report for you guys. This week in Fort Lauderdale. I would say that the accurate way to put the fishing would be hit and miss, it hasn't been red hot by no means but if you put in your time there are some quality fish to catch. On the inshore there has been a good amount of king mackeral available as well as some nicer mahi mahi chasing live baits in shallow. You can target either of these species while trolling but live baiting is going to get you bite from the bigger fish. Also in the mix there has been some sailfish around too, same thing applies as the species stated before live bait in going to get the bigger fish. For bottom fishing this week the snapper bite on the reef has been exceptional for yellowtail and mutton snapper if the conditions are correct, meaning the wind and the current are going the same direction. While anchor fishing for snapper there is a great chance to catch some Spanish mackeral and possibly a sailfish or mahi on live bait. For an offshore report there has been some blackfin tuna in the afternoons anywhere from 300 to 400 feet of water and trolling has been the best method. Fishing planners down under the surface and smaller sized baits on the surface fished way behind the boat is going to get you the bites. Seems to be a little bit of all species biting right now off the coast of Fort Lauderdale but nothing is red hot right now a little of this and a little of that which is the equivalent to what we like to call a "mixed bag." This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches while out on our deep sea fishing charters and also be sure to give us a like and a follow on social media platforms like facebook and instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. The holidays are approaching and we have a good amount of availability, fishing makes a great gift for someone special as well as a fun thing to do while down in Fort Lauderdale on vacation so if your coming down and looking to go deep sea fishing look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water. more later...
