Bring extra cash for licenses for each angler and bait for the boat. That is not listed on the site as not included. Also, suggest bringing toilet paper for use of the head on the boat and the use of the restrooms at the marina. That is an unpleasant surprise.
Jeff Steinmetz
Pay a little extra for live bait. It’s worth it. Ballyhoo for trolling. Sardines for tuna and mahi. You will need to have some experience to help captain and get fish in the boat drive the boat if needed.

Book with Fishing Booker, was our first time and worked out great. Pack a light lunch and snacks, plus plenty of water. Wear sun protection long sleeve and wear a hat, Preferably a sun hat with a chin strap so it doesn't fly away. We tipped our Captain $25 USD and Assistant $25 USD, at the dock fish cleaning station we paid the gentleman $10 USD to clean and fillet our fish. Bring a small insulated bag with some Ice to put your fish in. They put it in plastic sealed bags for you but needs to be kept cool. Take your fish to Georges right across the street to have them prepare your catch. Ceviche and an assortment of fish tacos.

The area has never disappointed anytime of the year for me. July hits best in the morning so if you are doing a half day definitely do the morning. The water gets up to 80 F in July so best for Dorados in the a.m.

Get on the smallest boat possible with just yourself and the crew and/or your partner, have fun, have patience, and enjoy the beautiful views, the water, the people, and the amazing fish and sealife. Was well beyond my expectations, and the prices for all this was very affordable. Dalikan Sportfishing turned out to be the choice for a great boat, a great crew, and great fishing!!

Make sure that you have a good reel, the ones that they provide are slow and old, they make dorado fish hard to reel in, and very difficult when you land a strip marlin. That would be my suggestion, maybe bring your own reel.

We try to book a couple of weeks before the big marlin tournament.
Three years ago we hooked up on big tuna and even red snapper.
This year (2021) - nothing.
San Jose Del Cabo is way nicer than going all the way to Cabo San Lucas.
Great golf there too with the best on course tacos ever!

Bring a Cooler, bleed your fish, request plenty of ice on the boat, don't tip til the trip is over...also keep a keen eye on your fish as they leave the boat...there are a ton of opportunities for people to grab one from your wheelbarrow without you noticing

The waters around San Jose were great to fish!! Lots of people, including ourselves, caught fish during our mid-March trip (Tuna, snapper, Marlin). Just to make things even better, there were whales playing everywhere; quite an amazing place. I highly recommend it if you have the chance.
Patrick Obertin
Yes. Fun fishing inshore. We did not catch any Mahi Mahi but when water is warmer, I am sure it is really great.
Justin Cooley
Lots of sunscreen. Enjoy all aspects of the trip, the whales, turtles, jellyfish. It’s really an amazing place.

Be ready to listen and follow Carlos expert advice and you will significantly improve your catch rate.

Check morning vs afternoon fishing and what's hot and what's not. Confirm you and Captain speak same language.
Daniel Cabacungan
Great whale watching, but choose a captain that is more engaging if you want to have a good time.
Ron Caron
Absolutely. We were a party of three with two first timers. So glad they caught the best fish too. The boat is a perfect set. Loved it all!!

40lbs of tuna fillet and 90lbs of Mahi fillet in 4 hours... This guy knows how to fish ! He's also a complete pleasure to be around.
Jennifer Garaghty
You can’t beat it. We had our villa send us with breakfast and tacos for lunch and a few coolers for the boat. It all worked out great!
Philip Kothmayer
Great trip. Be sure to get the name of the restaurant near the dock so the taxi driver can find it easily.

Make sure you let your captain know what species you would like to target. You can almost always experience some success if you're willing to be flexible with what you target.

Find the right boat. Look for a boat that is actually captained by the person in the advertisement and that has the reviews so you don't end up in the wrong boat like me.

Not sure if June is the best time. They did mention that November was the best time. We still had fun though

Took my wife and kids out but they don’t have sea legs and felt sick so we went back after fishing only 1.5 hrs

Target the species that are migrating into the area and ask questions to see what bite is hot at the moment

Go out with a crew that crew that is willing, and able to do everything, but will let you do as much as you can. This way you feel comfortable when it all does happen.

Get an Uber or taxi for early morning fishing. It's a little confusing driving to the marina in the early morning from the hotel strip.

Mahi mahi tastes amazing best fish since I don’t like tuna. oh and they are pretty if you didn’t notice

Keep an open mind, don't let what you want to catch, versus what you do catch determine the quality of time on the water. Because, remember, its all about the tug!

This was our third year fishing in SJD in January and have had successful trips each time

It’s less crowded then Cabo San Lucas and is worth the inconveniences of getting there.
