I would say 3.5 stars. Fishing out of Seward for the last 20 years I have seen it decline greatly. Lots of new rule from Fish and Game, hopefully that improves the over all experience for everyone.

Weather can be cold and rainy so just prepare properly with insulating layers and wind/water resistant outer layer. If you are prone to motion sickness get medication ahead of time. I used a transdermal patch behind my ear and it worked great, but the waters can be very rough so plan accordingly and enjoy your trip.

Book a Charter with a company with reputable reviews and have them show you the time of your life. Blue Ice Charters is my recommendation, you won't regret it. Crew was great with younger kids. Very patient and friendly.

Devote several days and try different trip options...so you increase your odds for both good weather and finding the fish. And savor the whole experience, the whales and sea otters, the food, the people and history. And listen to the guides--unless you've fished a lot of Alaska, it's not like anything you've done before. And be flexible--make the most of whatever the weather and fish gods offer. And at the end of the day, have the best dinner in Alaska at The Cookery.

Check the weather have good rain gear if the weather is nasty. If you get sick on the water be sure to stop and get stuff to help so you have a enjoyable time on the water fishing catching slob halibut. Also get lots of sleep cause Bobbie will have you catching fish.

Find a nice place to stay. Get good rest. Ensure you are rested, Have a lunch and take some non drowsy Dramamine if you even think you might be sick. It is hard to have a good experience when you are getting sick. Wear warm cloths (layered) and wear non slip waterproof shoes. NO BANANAS ON BOARD!!!!!!!!!! Don't forget rain gear.

Prepare for rain but bring a short sleeved shirt just in case the sun comes out! Plenty of space to store your backpacks and coolers so if you think you may need it-bring it.

Plan the trip so that you have time to freeze your fish before going home. It’s very pricy to send it home if you don’t have time to freeze it and take it on the plane.

Go for silvers and take the time to research who you go with and be very clear about what you want from species to tackle.

Do your homework. Pay a little more . It cost a lot just to get there and stay there . Spend the extra on the fishing.

Always bring proper wet weather gear and multiple layers for when weather conditions change. Don't forget your angler gloves for letting down your line to avoid thumb blisters.

Just enjoy the water, scenery and those that you're with. Fish may bite or not, but any day out on the water is a good day!!

Lots of halibut and rockfish. Alaska F&W paused keeping of yelloweye and lingcod till July tho, so we had to catch and release those ones.
