Here at Good Hit Sportfishing we wait all year for October and November fishery. This is when the bait piles up and the fish make a residence here in Fort Lauderdale. The fun fishing starts around October 1st and goes on until December 20th. We pride ourselves on this dominate fishing period and have a blast doing it. Our tackle of choice is light tackle spinning rods, 20lb line and all circle hooks. Most of the fishing we do is sight fishing, see your fish before you hook it. Most entertaining fishing of the year, and we beyond excited this fishery is upon us. The fish we are targeting- Sailfish and Mahi Mahi Bycatch- Snapper, Tuna and Shark Make sure to book your trip before it is too late, we have a big following for this fishery and can’t wait till it happens.

Mahi Madness in Fort Lauderdale, the summer slowly begins to end. But the Mahi Mahi Fishing is still in Full Force. We have been catching these beauty’s from **hidden content**ft of water, with our favorite bait being live pilchards. Our favorite outfit would have to be a light tackle spinning rod for Mahi, 12-20lb test. We have been sight fishing for the Dolphin, looking for birds, debris, and weed lines. The morning has been best for the Mahi, and we have noticed the bigger fish come later in the season. We are also excited for Sailfish Season which is right around the corner. The Sail fishing has got off to a great start, we have been Seeing Sailfish since September 1st. We normally fish for Sails by kitefishing and dragging live baits when we do not have wind. On Good Hit Sportfishing we are live bait specialist, using live bait 90% of the time. We also like to use light tackle to target these fish, either 20lb spinner or 20lb conventional outfit. On our boats we use top of the line equipment, to make sure we do not have equipment failure. Having great equipment is a huge part of the battle when it comes to light tackle fishing. On October 4 th 2019, We hooked four sailfish at the same time. Landing 3 of the 4 sailfish with only one angler, he sure had his hands full with all these sailfish. His buddy’s were really kicking theirselves for not coming on that day! Alantic Sailfish are the most popular gamefish our customers like to target off of Fort Lauderdale. We target these fish only one mile off of the beach in Fort Laudersale. While winter approaches the more Sailfish we see, having the best number in November . We have been having the best luck with our 3/4 day fishing charter, leaving an hour earlier than the other boats and coming in an hour later than the other groups. July 2019 This Month’s post is dedicated to Mahi Mahi July has been a great month for catching Dolphin, we have snared Mahi on almost all of our offshore trips this month. We have been catching them from **hidden content**ft of water recently. The best way to target Mahi is “running and gunning” - that’s running the boat at high speeds and looking for looking for something to fish to. Mahi can be found anywhere there is life offshore - usually under sargassum weed lines, floating boards, or any large object floating in the water that has bait on it. Our favorite bait for Mahi has been live pilchards by the dozen. Using live bait is key for catching the Dolphin, and having lots of them is also important. Our set up of choice is a medium sized spinning rod for the best action and being able to cast to the fish is also key. The best find we had this July was a large pallet floating in 750ft of water It was not only a nice piece of debris, but it had a large turtle swimming around it that wouldn't leave. The Mahi tend to swim with these turtles given the right conditions. This pallet just happened to have 100’s of gaffer sized Mahi underneath it, and they were biting as fast as the bait would hit the water. We caught our limit on that trip! August and September are also great months for the Mahi, and Dolphin fishing seems to only get better. I hope you guys enjoyed my post, Captain Mike.

The sail-fishing continues to be productive through spring . Doing the normal, kite fishing when we have wind and drifting pilchards when the seas are calm. Grouper Season Has finally opened and the Grouper fishing is Hot. When we have current we are catching a few in a trip. We caught our personal best Gag Grouper in the first week of May 50.15lbs. Along with the Groupers, the Mutton Snapper are also starting to make an appearance as well. The wreck fishing is the most effective technique recently, catching a 30lb cubera snapper on our normal ship wreck. This is the third Large Snapper we have caught in 3 months of wreck fishing. One of the toughest fish in the ocean, and also put up a hell of a fight. While swordfishing has been on fire, this is the best year we saw for swordfish in 8 seasons. Day or Night have both been productive, catching one of these galtitator of the seas is not out of the question. On the few swordfishing trips that we did, we caught multiple fish. I would recommend the daytime for the best experience. We prefer to use two electric reels during the day. We also carry a few manual assist reels if you want to crank one in yourself. Consider yourself warned, reeling in a swordfish in 1800’ can be strainuuis. When sword fishing is slow during the day, stoping for grocery’s on the way In is a must. A few drops in 800’ of water can land you some tasty Black Belly Rose Fish. Which are a deep water fish that are easy to catch, and also great for the dinner table. As the seas remain calm into Early Fall the fishing continues to improve. Bottom fishing is red hot on certain ship wrecks, and the Sailfish have made an early arrival. We are seeing sailfish on the surface, chasing ballyhoo and other small baitfish. When this happens early, we know it’s going to be a great sailfish season. In early fall, we like to target sailfish on light tackle, spinning rods to be exact! The Mahi fishing has been incredible all Summer, and will begin to slow down in late October, so if Mahi fishing is what you enjoy, better get out there!
