October Bowfishing Report
Octubre 24, 2022
We've been out doing a little bowfishing here and there. Since hurricane Ian the water level on the St John's River has been extremely high. The higher water helps for a great airboat ride but a little tougher for the bowfishing. It's been quite challenging trying to find tilapia with the water being this high in the dark water. We did some searching and found some nice holes with clean clear water and plenty of big tilapia and bowfin. If you've never bow fished before you gotta come give this a shot, it's so much fun and not to mention a nice airboat ride along with it.

October Fishing Update
Octubre 21, 2022
As usual though October and November bring the winds and rougher seas so that's something we gotta work around. If you easily get seasick, offshore and inlet fishing is probably not your cup of tea. If you can tough out the rough conditions then you'll most likely come home with the prize. The mullet run has pretty much moved on south but let me just start off by saying "FIRE!!!!!!!". The snook fishing at Sebastian Inlet has been absolutely on fire the last couple weeks. The bait hits the water, count to 10 and boom fish on. I have never seen the snook bite this hot in all my time fishing. Not to mention most of the fish are slot keeper snook as well. The lagoon fishing has been pretty good too. We're catching slot reds and trout along the mangroves and finding some flounder and tripletail around the crab pots. Unfortunately the FWC has closed redfish as well as flounder. Flounder will be closed from Oct 15th until Nov 30th. Redfish on the other hand is closed until further notice. Snook will be open from Sept 1st until Dec 15th.

Hurricane Ian
Octubre 1, 2022
Post storm trips and the start of October has been fantastic. Hurricane Ian didn't seem to bother the mullet run much at all other than the water levels being a little high. Millions of mullet are still swarming down the lagoon and all through Sebastian Inlet and the predators are chewing. We've been catching a bunch of slot redfish, 25" to 32" snook, tarpon, jack crevalle, and Spanish mackerel this past weekend. Next week looks like it might be a little choppy at the inlet and offshore but the lagoon should be popping. Looking forward towards the end of the month the big bull reds should start to show up as well.

Fall Mullet Run 2022
Septiembre 20, 2022
Well anglers it's 100%, the fall mullet run is in full effect now. Millions of mullet have been migrating down the beach getting sucked into every inlet of the Indian River Lagoon system along the way. Like I always say this is my favorite time of year to fish inshore because bait is easy to find and the predators are extremely hungry. Snook, redfish, tarpon, trout, jacks, sharks, etc.... are all around taking a piece of the pie. Sebastian Inlet and the beaches have been our main focus this month. We're catching all sizes of snook from little pumpkins to monster 40"+ snook and some medium size redfish as well. It hasn't been to hard to find them either. As soon as those big mullet schools come into the inlet, there's nothing but fireworks. The snook, tarpon, and sharks have been blasting these mullet up on the surface making a very exciting show. This month we started up doing some airboat trips with the new boat. Did a little bowfishing and airboat rides. I'll tell you what, bowfishing is a lot more challenging than I thought. Because of all the rain we've been having lately the airboat rides have been fantastic. Since the waters been up we can now go back in all the beautiful cypress hammocks and run the trails. We were also able to score a couple nice gators, one off of the bay boat, and one on the airboat with Captain Joe Smith. Next year we're looking to add in gator hunting to one of our other options and possibly team up with Captain Joe for gator hunts.

The Fall Season Is Near
Agosto 26, 2022
August was a slow month, business wise, but we had some fantastic fishing all around. The offshore trips were awesome, catching mahi, amberjack, big mangrove and mutton snapper, triggerfish, along with big kingfish, and sharks. The inshore bite at Sebastian Inlet has been pretty hott for us lately as well. The snook have been tearing up our baits and making them drags scream. Nearshore along the beach has produced mutton snapper, sheepshead, and big schools of tarpon. Coming up is my most favorite time of the year to inshore fish. We are just about to get into our fall season in the next week or so which means "Fall Mullet Run". The best part is snook season will be starting up September 1st. The last few trips fishing the inlet has produced one after another on slot snook. Hopefully those slot fish will stick around for another few weeks so we can bring home some meat. Through my years of fishing the inlet, I've noticed that at the beginning of the mullet run, typically September, there are large amounts of slot redfish that come into the inlet. Then about mid to late October the big bull redfish start to come in. As the water starts to cool down, the inshore fishing in the lagoon starts to get really good along the mangroves. Some of the species we normally target this time of year are snook, redfish, seatrout, and tarpon. We finally got the airboat up and running so we'll be doing freshwater fishing trips and airboat rides here soon.

Back to School
Agosto 4, 2022
This summer has been brutally hot. Water temps in the lagoon have been in the upper 90's in the middle of the day. If you've decided to sleep in, any fishing in the lagoon past 10 am has been pretty tough. Our focus has mainly been Sebastian Inlet and a few of the Nearshore reefs for our inshore trips. The snook have been on fire lately with a few bull reds in the mix on the outgoing tides. The incoming tides have produced some monster jack crevalle up in the 30 lb and 40 lb range while drift fishing the channel. There have been some monster tarpon cruising the beach as well but getting them to eat has been a whole other process. The Nearshore reefs have produced a considerable amount of lane snapper on most trips. Our customers are limiting out on snapper out there nearly every trip. The main key at these spots to getting bites has been bait selection and it changes days to day. One day they want this the next they want that. Offshore has also been very productive this summer. Our red snapper days went very well, we limited out with our red snapper within 1 hour of showing up to the spot. There's been no shortage of fish being brought home either. Whether it be snapper, kingfish, triggerfish, amberjack, or mahi, we've been catching them all. The last couple weeks there's been a thermocline in the ocean which means the water on the bottom is really cold pushing the fish up higher in the water column. Upon arriving to a spot the screen can be loaded with fish but nothing wants to bite. You just gotta figure out how they want the bait presented to them, then it's drag screaming time. The fall season will be here shortly and that means the mullet run is coming. The months of September and October are some of my personal favorite months to fish inshore. Snook, redfish, and tarpon are on fire this time of year. The airboat is at the shop right now getting finished up and hopefully I'll be taking her on the maiden voyage this week. I'm very excited to add the airboat trips to Whatever Turns U On Fishing Charters.
