Good action on our deep sea fishing trips this week. We're doing great on yellowtail and mangrove snappers. These aren't the biggest fish in the ocean, but they are fun to catch and they are great eating. We're getting into them in around 60ft of water, drifting over the second reef. Along with the yellowtails and mangroves is a nice mix of other bottom species such as grunts, porgies, triggerfish, jacks and sometimes even groupers, which can get decent size. Another good size fish that bites on these trips sometimes is the mutton snapper. Mutton snapper are very smart and it takes an adept fisherman to entice one of these guys to bite. Night fishing is also very good this time of year. Lots of red snapper action and it's a pleasure to fish at night because it is so much cooler out on the water. The daytime trips can be hot. Good thing our boat has air conditioning. Sharks are also hitting at night on some trips. Some fishermen love 'em, some fishermen hate 'em. They are a lot of fun to catch, you just can't eat them.
