Greetings and Happy New Year!
The image attached are some of 2018's highlights! We've fished with folks from all over the globe, and for that we are very grateful!
The South Fl Glades has produced one of the BEST Redfish spawns I've seen in a long time, that spawn has resulted in 30-50 Redfish to the boat each time out, although we're not catching many slot fish it is most certainly a BLAST to catch so many baby drums... Regardless of their size, these mini drum still produce quite the fight and we've kept angler rods bent for many a charter!
Myself and many fellow guides have found ourselves making longer runs, in an effort to find bigger fish and that tactic has not disappointed. On recent charters, we've hooked and landed 4 or more Black drum in the 10- 30 lb range (See image above). These goliath drum have been caught on 30 lb braid, 40 lb floru leader on a heavy action Black Hole USA rod, paired and IRT 400 DD reel. These veteran drum are taking to a fresh live shrimp but also, fresh live crab (in some instances).
As long as these South Fl cold fronts continue to blow through, and our waters remain cold (in the 65-70 degree range), I expect the drum bite to remain the same...
As for our fishery, I am stoked for the potential that our Redfish spawn will bring us in the near future.
Tight lines in 2019 friends!
