Trip Summary

This week on the YB Normal out of Fort Lauderdale it has been a great week, but we do like to change it up sometimes as change specially in fishing is a good thing. We had some great trips this week, and the fishing as been good also, we have been catching a nice variety of fish on our charters, We have been trolling like normal catching mahi mahi which is a great eating fish and one of the prettiest fish that we catch in our waters, as well as blackfin tuna which is a great fish also and is sushi grade if you like sushi but if not that is ok to because it is great seared in a hot skillet. We also have been catching some bonito and kingfish. When the fishing is slow we like to change it up here at the YB Normal and fish some of the deep ship wrecks or artificial reefs in Fort Lauderdale, we like to do some vertical jigging over some of these wrecks which is a great technique to catch fish when fishing is slow, vertical jigging is a style of fishing where you use apiece of metal with a hook on it and you drop it over structure and jig it to the surface as fast as you can in order to get a reaction strike, this is a good way to target hard fighting fish like amerjack these fish are known for there hard fighting abilities and stamina, the fishing in the afternoon has been very good for tuna and they have been nice sized to around 7lb average to as big as 15lbs, the fishing should continue to keep improving as we approach march and the spring season. As far as night fishing it has been good for snapper if the conditions are good, weather windows have been small for night fishing but the nights we have been out we have been having good catches of yellowtail and mangrove snappers. This week is a busy one for us but there is some availability if your looking to get out on a deep sea fishing charter, give us a chance you won't be disappointed! More later.. Capt. Vinnie

Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here with a great fishing report for you guys this week. The weather has been in our favor this week specially for some deep sea fishing. Starting off the morning trips have been seeing some great action on the troll for blackfin tuna. Trolling the depths from 180 on out to 300 feet has been the most productive as of late and lures in a greenish color have been getting the most bites. Some of the tuna we have been getting have been over 20lbs, which is just great! no complaints here. Also in the early mornings there has been a very good showing of mahi mahi right now which is somewhat odd for this time of year they are more of a summer time fish but I won't say no if they are biting thats for sure. The mahi have been biting in depths from 300 on out to 500 feet, the best action has been on color changes from green water to blue water as well as scattered weeds and the best action would be if your lucky enough to hit the jackpot and find something floating like pieces of wood or floating ropes. Other then mahi and tuna we have been seeing some wahoo action as well. Some of the wahoo that are being caught have been early in the mornings primarily over structure like sunken ship wrecks. Afternoon trips have been producing a solid bite of blackfin tuna the later the better it has been slow from around 1 to 3pm but once 4pm approaches that seems to be when the tuna have been starting to bite. Tuna have big eyes and are sensitive to light so low light conditions are always going to be best if your looking to catch tuna. On a final note bottom fishing for vermillion snappers has been somewhat decent when the current allows for it also if your have live bait most deeper wrecks are holding some very large amberjacks right now too. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches caught while out on our deep sea fishing charters and remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing content. For this week coming up looks like some windy weather for the beginning of the week and then the wind lightens up towards the end of the week, spring fishing is definitely in full effect, tunas, mahi, the occasional wahoo, and bottom fishing heating up I can't think of a better time to get out fishing in Fort Lauderdale, so if your coming down to south florida and looking to do some deep sea fishing please look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water. Busy week ahead here so be on the look out for future reports. more later.... Capt. Vinnie

Spring Break Fishing In Fort Lauderdale
Spring Break Fishing In Fort Lauderdale

Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a great week of deep sea fishing it has been in Fort Lauderdale, I would say the spring fishing conditions are here and in full force not to mention the weather has been just excellent no complaints here! This week the early mornings have been very good specially while trolling. Some really nice blackfin tuna coming on the deeper baits fished with planners the depth from 180 feet on out to 300 feet has been the magic area for these blackfin tunas and the size has been excellent. Average size has been around 10lbs give or take, now blackfin don't get as large as yellowfin and bluefin tuna but that being said that doesn't mean they don't taste as good because they are excellent eating and not to mention sushi grade as well. We have been seeing a few bonito and kingfish as bycatch while tuna fishing. Moving a little deeper there has been quite a few mahi mahi right now which is not really common in the month of March off the coast of Fort Lauderdale but no complaints here, mahi are always welcomed aboard. The best advice I could give is try to locate a color change where the green water meets the blue water, there usually is a weed line of some sort because that is where the different currents meet and form an edge, usually there is bird activity as well. Mornings have had some solid action but I would say the best bet right now would be afternoon specially if your looking for some tuna, best to sleep in and get out for the afternoon bite. Spring fishing is definitely in full swing here in Fort Lauderdale lots of different species biting and plenty of action. This week please take the time to check out some of the great photos of some recent catches caught aboard the YB Normal while out deep sea fishing. And also remember to give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing to see what we are catching daily. The weather has been excellent and the fishing has picked up drastically as we get into the heart of spring I would imagine the fishing to stay great and maybe even pick up more then it already is now, one thing to look forward to is game sharks they should be right around the corner, so be on the look out for that and if you are thinking about coming down to Fort Lauderdale specially for spring break we would love to get you out fishing with us so please look us up we would love to show you a great time on the water. more later..... Spring Fishing Taking Effect In Fort Lau
Spring Fishing Taking Effect In Fort Lau
Marzo 6, 2024
Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week I would say is defiantly an improvement in the fishing over last week just like the title says spring fishing taking effect in Fort Lauderdale. We are starting to get a taste of that obviously it is fishing and far from any guarantees but the chances of catching quality fishing are improving daily. As of late spending most of our time on the reef there has been some quality blackfin tunas biting while trolling early mornings and late evenings are always going to be your best windows for bites. Small lures fished on the surface as well as mylar lures fished under neath the surface have been producing some of these blackfin tunas. Also we are starting to see some kingfish action on the troll as well which is a staple during spring time fishing. Trolling will get you more bites but live bait will produce quality bites, pick your poison. There has also been a small flurry of some mahi mahi action and some quality ones at that. Days when the wind tends to blow from and easterly direction for a few days and the waves build there has been some quality mahi on the reef, these mahi are not picky but its more of getting in front of one to get the bites, it is a nice little bonus. Bottom fishing this week has been hit and miss some days when the conditions are correct there has been some nice sized vermillion snappers along with some quality grey trigger fish, but on days that the conditions don't line up it has been a waste of time. One thing I would like to point out is that we did have a daytime swordfish charter this week and we did catch one not a monster but a nice fish indeed (pictured). Swordfish is one of the hardest fish to catch here in Fort Lauderdale and FAR from a guarantee catch but the reward is so great if you do catch one. Now is a great time if your looking for that once in a lifetime swordfish. This week please be sure to check out some of the great photos we have of some recent catches caught this week while out on our deep sea fishing charters and also give us a like and follow on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram @Ybnormalsportfishing for daily fishing updates and you can see what we are doing from day to day. Fishing will continue to improve as we reach the end of March and even into April. Alot to look forward to, but one thing is for sure if your coming down to Fort Lauderdale and looking to do some deep sea fishing we have plenty of options that suits everyone so look us up and we will show you a great time on the water!
