Trip Summary

Our last "full moon" was on August 18th. Typically two or three days before and after the full moon can offer great opportunities for catching Wahoo. This month the Blackfin Tuna's, Kingfish and Bonita bite was pretty good, with a fair amount of Wahoo also being caught. Wahoo being one of the fastest fish in the sea are often caught in the 200' to 400' depth, as they are feeding on the Bonita and Blackfin's. Productive methods for catching Wahoo include trolling high speed lures, or using a planner to get the baits down deeper in the water column. A Drone 3 1/2" spoon, a blue and white ILander Sea Witch combined with a Ballyhoo or a Bonita strip are proven Wahoo catchers. Offshore we often troll our planner rig around floating structure looking for the Wahoo bite, (especially if there's anything vertical in the water column). We catch Wahoo all year long, although the October and November Full Moon's offers great possibilities. Remember, Wahoo have razor sharp teeth so always wear gloves when handling the fish.
