Thank you for an epic day! We caught trophy dish, mahi mahi, some fun dorado and Sail & Marlin. Wow! Captain and crew were excellent! Thank you, we will be back!
It was great fishing with this crew and so friendly & helpful!!
This was a Full Day Trip with Captain Poncho and Mate Tu-Pac on the Merengue 40’. The captain and Mate were very friendly, knowledgeable and very experienced. They speak good English and worked hard to get us fish. It was a long day with a few bites but no fish boated until 2:15 PM, the captain and mate were so happy and relieved as you know no one wants to be skunked. We caught a big bull Mahi-Mahi, we took the fillets to The Funky Olive which I highly recommend. They cooked it 5 ways plus sushi and sashimi to begin, all with one half of the fish, best fish meal ever! Highly recommend The Funky Olive!

The goods. We had a group of 9. Due to covid we had to do two boats. Wasn’t what we wanted but I cant dock the charter for that, that’s out of their hands and I completely understand that. Price was fair and the crew made sure we had everything we needed (licenses, bait, food, water etc.). A crew member met us right by the main entrance to the dock and walked us right to where we needed to be. They were very helpful and very accommodating to all of us. We got to the boat and was loaded up, fueled and on the water fishing very quickly. The crew and captain were very nice and funny group of guys. The boat was clean and equipment was all set out and ready for use.
The Bad. This was probably more on myself but worth sharing. We did catch a marlin which was an awesome experience! We hook on to it right out of the harbor and was a 20 min fight. Probably 6 foot fish and will forever be a memory for me. Unfortunately this was the only fish we got in the boat for the 5 hours between the two boats. I know I said we wanted to catch marlin but I could have been more direct and ask to shift our fishing from marlin to other easy to catch fish for the rest of the party. 5 hours on a boat with no other fish is a long day on the water. My only suggestion to the crew would be to maybe ask if we had wanted to go after other fish to get everyone involved on the boat. But again it could have been a language barrier and maybe I wasn’t direct enough.
Either way, the trip was a great time. I will defiantly be doing this again when we come back next year. I would 100% recommend this charter to friends who are looking to catch big fish in Cabo.

Thank you Jimmy. I will let them know to the crew about comunication. I am Poncho, just recover from COVID and survive. See next time!
Great crew…hard working and attentive. I have fished many times out of Cabo and San Jose. The Merengue is very clean, well equipped, and very stable for novice fishermen (2 of our companions). Lots of room on this 40fter for all 5 of us. We booked a half day excursion through Fishing Booker. Seamless booking experience. Came home with a nice dorado and marlin photos (released). Poncho the owner (not captain) was ready for us as soon as we arrived. bare bones, so you need your own food and licenses and pay for bait ($20). TuPac gave very good lessons to two of our guests, and moments later one of them hooked up a dorado. Great fun and all smiles.
Only 2 issues that for us should be addressed. I almost always book a half day, as I did on this trip, but they were ready to return to the marina at 10:45 am…hardly a half day. On Fishing Booker it states 5 hours. We asked them to stay out longer, but we were still back at the dock at 11:15 am. I have never had a half day that didn’t last until at least noon. Also, since we were fishing in beautiful weather at a slow time of year, some bottom fishing for grouper or snapper could have been fun. After all, we had the time. Or whale watching for 45 more minutes.
Otherwise, great guys and a great boat. Would definitely book again with some clarity up front first. Not the least expensive boat at Cabo, so be sure to get your money’s worth.
