My husband has dreamed of halibut fishing in Alaska for as long as I have known him. After surviving cancer this past few months I decided we should book a trip and get a check mark next to a bucket list item. The day was supposed to be about him but the 13 people on the boat quickly became friends as the crew is very welcoming and relaxed. It was about an hour ride to get out to the fishing area. The weather was spectacular, about 60-65 degrees with clear skies and calm waters. This isn’t typical but we were extremely happy with the weather. My husband caught a 60 pound halibut, and the crew and my husband helped me catch a 98 pound halibut. IT WAS HARD WORK!!! The crew was attentive the entire trip. Noah was so excited when the halibut got on board someone filmed him. He truly loves fishing 🎣. It was a phenomenal experience and we took home 111 pounds of fish!
Some items that should be considered when booking your trip:
1) Call Captain Jacks to understand the cost of shipping, packaging and freezing/holding your fish 🐠 2) Tips are not mandatory but always appreciated. A customary tipping range is somewhere between 5-25% (unlimited to your hearts content, based on your experience). 3) Be o time for the departure, the sooner you all get checked in the better! 4) Make sure to bring snacks and food for the day. I learned it’s smart to buy beer 🍺 the night before as Alaska doesn’t sell beer until 10 am.
I would recommend this trip, this crew, and Seward. The surrounding area adds to the beauty of the trip.

Thank you so much for the awesome review! I’m so glad you guys enjoyed this trip and kicked some halibut butts aswell as your husband kicking cancers butt!!! Enjoy your catch
Thanks for the review!
Way too many fishermen for the size of the boat. Not much opportunity to catch sizeable fish.
Thanks for the review! But as far as sizeable fish, this one was caught on the trip you were on. Although fishing is fishing and we can never predict what will be caught on any given day, we do know that there’s always an opportunity if you have a hook in the water. Gotta just hope Lady Luck is on your side and you get that good bite!
Wife and I had a very memorial day on the water. Caught near our limit of fish and landed two large Ling Cod as a bonus (out of season so they were released). The crew was a moving around and very much on top of it: rebaiting, untangling, gaffing, catch ID’ing, hauling, and lots of encouragement to all anglers… a well oiled machine, for sure. Captain Bob knows how to put you on the fish so if you are an old salt crusty type or new to the Alaska fishery, you can trust Anchor Down to deliver a great experience.
