I had a great time going out with Scottie, my girlfriend, and my buddy for my 28th birthday. It was all of our first times on a boat and we had a great time fishing. We ended up catching 13 skipjacks and 1 really large yellowtail fish. All were absolutely delicious eating.
Scottie was a great guide and very open with communication considering it was my first time chartering a trip. He was ready for us even before we got there. I will have no problem recommending Scottie and Brothers Sport Fishing in the future. I am planning to get out there with Scottie again in the summertime this year!

Was a slow morning with just the one yellowtail. But glad we kept working hard and found a nice skipjack tuna school. Triple hookups are fun. Looking forward to having you down again this summer!
I initially met Scottie via Facebook on a Socal fishing group and he extended an offer for a full day trip with me when I was visiting San Diego this past August. He is extremely professional and knowledgeable regarding all aspects of boating safety and adhering to California Department of Fish and Wildlife standards. We planned to fish south of the border so he informed me I needed to apply for both a Californian and Mexican fishing license while he took care of the visa for my trip. Prior to my trip on the 17th, he contacted me a few times to get an idea of what type of fish I was looking to target and I let him know I wanted Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna. From there, he reached out to his network of captains to locate where the fish were schooling to formulate a game plan. Scottie really does his research! On the actual day of the trip, we left Mission Bay after fueling/baiting up and jetted out to the Coronado Islands early. We got there and fished a mixture of surface irons, slow trolling and fly lining, catching a few bonitos but couldn’t get the yellowtails to bite. Scottie was completely transparent with the fishing- throwing on the radio to listen to how the other boats were doing. It seemed like everyone was having a slow day due to the recent drop in water temperatures. We decided to go offshore to utilize our time and met up with the fleet, paddy hopping along the way but it seemed like all the spots were picked clean from the other boats. We managed to get a few Skipjacks and Yellowfin Tunas. On the way back, Scottie really wanted me to hook up with some Yellowtails since it was my first trip out on Californian waters so he went out of his way BACK to Coronado to slow troll the South Island. Nothing we were doing produced bites and we went back to the North Island, catching a few Calico Basses on surface irons. We were already out an hour past the time we were supposed to be back to dock and Scottie decided to do one last slow troll pass and we FINALLY had a Yellowtail take the Rapala. We ended up staying ANOTHER hour to capitalize on the bite producing three more fish, just one shy of the Mexican limit. Brothers Sportfishing prioritizes customer’s satisfaction over making a profit which is something I have not seen in a lot of charter boat businesses. Afterwards, he even offered to take my fish to the processing center to clean and ship to me overnight since I am based out of the East Coast. The level of service and care that this boat offers is bar none and I will hands down fish with them again when I am back in San Diego. I have confidence that they do their absolute best to put the customer on the action and I know you will too once you fish with them.

Happy to have had you aboard Andrew and you worked hard all day with zero complaints through the slow fishing. Stoked that we were able to connect in the final hours of the day. Mahalos!
It was the best!! We caught all the fish we wanted. The captain worked VERY hard providing us with a great trip. We were not rushed, and he cleaned all the fish perfectly. If you want to have a great trip on the water, go with Brothers Fishing Charters.
Scottie was very informative, and excellent at teaching proper handling of rods and all equipment. Explained techniques, and made it simple enough for everyone to follow along. He handled all logistics such as baiting the lines and knew all the good spots to fish. I would highly recommend using his services, for anyone that wants to learn to fish, is already good at fishing or just wants a good time.
Thanks for bringing the boys out with me Matt! Until next time.
I normally don’t write reviews, but this went above and beyond my expectations. We went out for a half day with Captain Scottie, and he put in the extra hours and effort to provide a good trip for my friends. He is extremely passionate and very knowledgeable about the fish, answering all my questions. I will definitely be going on more trips with him- thanks for a great day!!
Thanks Amanda for taking the time to leave us a review. Glad we could take your friends out for a good time, see the San Diego views, and catch some lingcod and rockfish!
