My husband and I had such high hopes for this trip. One mistake I made was not realizing that the reviews all mentioned different captains. I assumed the quality of our trip and captain would the same as the many reviews. Now I realize there are many captains so it’s a toss up who you get.
We had Capt Zac. The first 1.5 hours were spent driving in literal circles trying to find his live bait trap. It was very bizarre. Due to Capt Zac being so short, he needed my husband to do the work of getting the trap up. Capt Zac also treated my husband like a deckhand.
We finally convinced him to stop looking for the second live bait trap after 1.5 hours. He drove us 12 miles off shore for mangrove snapper. Zac spent 30 min fishing while we just sat there. I was expecting a boat Capt that was personable and outgoing but that was not the case. Zac rarely spoke to us. And the Bluetooth didn’t work so we didn’t even have music.
Finally my husband had enough of Zac’s silent fishing so he asked for us to go back. I did convince him to at least attempt tarpon fishing. We did go back and managed to hook a tarpon. That was at least a relief after the only thing caught So far was a live bait trap. Unfortunately, the tarpon got off so no picture. Although I do have pictures of my husband being silly on the bow while Zac was fishing.
We then Headed in but not before Zac stopped and had my husband drag up another live bait trap near the marina for his next day trip.
We were both incredibly frustrated and disappointed. It was my first charter experience but my husband assured me this is not normal.
