I had 2 days fishing with Benn and his crew aboard their immaculate boat ‘Good Day’ based in Quepos, Costa Rica. We fished one day offshore after billfish and mahi, the other day we fished inshore for snook, rooster fish and cubera. The guys worked so hard to put me on some fish and we were rewarded with some incredible looking specimens! The level of care and attention offered by the guys was second to none and perfect english was spoken too.
Within minutes of arriving at our fishing grounds offshore I was treated to the incredible display and fight from a Sailfish of 198cm which we tagged and released. It was my first of the species and I was delighted, it had been a bucket list fish of mine for some time. We narrowly missed out on bringing a blue marlin to the boat as well, it smashed through the spread of lures and unbelievably missed the hooks….but that’s fishing for you! It was an incredible sight all the same that I wont be forgetting in a hurry!
Fishing inshore was awesome, we quickly filled the livewell with bait which is always good fun and then headed down the coast to some incredible looking ground and rock marks. It screamed roosters and snapper to me and I was not disappointed! With a 20lb class rooster coming to the boat in short time (a personal best for me) and a missed chance with a cubera, it was a great start. We then went on to catch a load of sierra mackerel and jacks which provided some great fun and rod bending action, it was thick and fast with plenty of hook-ups and often 2 fish on at once. We even snuck in to a couple of river mouths to swim some baits for a snook but one dropped run was our only chance.
I cant say enough good things about the whole operation and experience. I’ve fished all over the world and these guys are certainly up there with the best of them. They have the passion, drive and determination and always went that extra mile (quite literally!) to ensure I had a great trip. Highly recommended!
