Mahuey boat charter
VERIFICADOHugely disappointed. Two words sum up my experience with this charter. To begin with the boat didn’t match up to the images on the website. There are clear pictures of seating on either side of the boat including a fighting seat neither of which were there. Then there was no fish finder. I had responded to a query from the owner about the types of fishing I wanted to do (in essence I wanted to try all) but he informed his crew to come prepared for just popping. The fishing equipment was dismal and the crew struggled to assemble them and resorted to using bits of plastic to hold the rods together. There was very little space for 2 anglers (unless you’re highly experienced) to fish from the boat. The crew then went on to do fishing themselves and we were just watching. I didn’t sign up to pay $1100 to watch them fish. The key person of the crew had bad attitude and was arrogant. We eventually cancelled the trip 2 hours into it after speaking with Raifu who said he needs to pay his crew and for fuel. In the end we still ended up paying $660 for a complete rip off trip. Sorry but my sincerest advice to bookers is to give this charter a complete miss unless you have zero expectations and are a world class popper. They didn’t have any backup plan and all they seemed keen to do in the end was collect the payment.

It is unfortunate that the client wasn’t happy about the trip. However, it was the same boat with some renovations earlier this year. This includes removal of some seats (at the back) for more deck space for fishing and also change in top canvas to fiber glass roofing. Seating is still available in the boat on the higher deck. The fighting chair was removed for the trip to make more deck space for easier casting as what we understood from the email communication was that the client was interested in popping when we asked about the types of fishing he would like to experience. As per the client’s email: “I’m looking or rather hoping to catch big fish so once again I’ll take your advice on this. I’ve tried trolling for dorado and have caught a few decent ones so I don’t mind that. Never tried popping but have done spinner casting in rivers so I don’t mind trying popping for GT. I’m not so fond of jigging since it’s a lot of hard work ha ha but if that’s the only way to go I’ll do it. I’ll look to you for guidance”
Also attached are pictures of the boat after renovation.
Regarding the fish finder, we agree it was not onboard during the trip, as our crew is quite experienced in the area. Regarding the fishing equipment and our crew, we have never had such feedback from our clients in any of our previous trips and its the same equipment and crew on this trip.
Regarding payment, we collected $500 from the client as it was 2 hours into the trip when client inquired about the boat. This was to cover part of the expenses we have incurred in preparing for trip. at this time we explained to the client that it was the same boat and that from his email what we understood was that he would like to go for popping. We also asked what he would like to do at the time, and the response was to cut the trip short and drop him back to the island.
Once again it is unfortunate that the client was not happy and we would like to improve with the feedback. It is also our fault that we have not updated the pictures in the website after the renovation works of the boat. We will continue to work with our crew to provide a better service and fishing experience.
