Enjoyed the morning with just the Captain and myself. I started off calling him Captain Alberto, but after awhile I was calling him “Al”. He was very knowledgeable and taught me ALOT on this trip. I was impressed how he could basically predict how fishing would be and where to go. We caught lots of striped bass on this trip. It’s a great experience to fish San Diego bay. The views are incredible. From the view of downtown high-rises, to US Navy ships, especially the USS Midway carrier only adds to the memorable trip. But what makes the trip thoroughly enjoyable was Al. Right from the get go, I trusted the Captain and really enjoyed learning so much. His kindness and knowledge goes above and beyond. I wish I knew before hand, but you can request that he bring his furry, loyal canine companion. That would be a bonus, especially with kiddos and animal Lovers. I don’t have anything negative to say. 5 Stars! Looking forward to bringing my 13 year old son along next time. (School started is why I didn’t bring him in the first place). Thank you Al! Early that morning I could barely even cast, but towards the end of the trip, I could cast, and was comfortable with the technique of reeling in many species of bass.

I have been fortunate enough to fish with Capt Al many times over the past few years and on every single trip we have been successful. He is an expert in the southern CA fishery and knows his gear just as well as he knows SoCal waters. Whether you want to inshore halibut and bass fish, drop for tasty rock fish and lings, or chase the pelagic trophies off shore or even sword fish, he is your guy! In addition, Capt Al is extremely proficient in the various fishing techniques that increase your odds of catching fish and being productive on the water. Bounce balling and slow pitch jigging come to mind.  Bottom line, if you want to have a great SAFE day on the water, catch fish, and learn or hone your techniques or in SoCal waters, Diamond Dog Charters is the way to go.

I had a great day fishing with Al. Super friendly, very knowledgeable and experienced. Caught a lot of fish. I couldn’t have asked for a better guide and first experience fishing in salt water. I definitely would recommend people to fish with Al. Thanks Al for an epic day!

Al has to be one of the most knowledgeable Captains out there that i have fished with !! He loves to study his craft and continues to impress me each time i’m on his boat with all the knowledge he shares. He is very passionate about reading current, water temps, tide swings and many other factors that determine fish bites and activity to get us on some nice meat. Works hard to keep you on the bite. Al is super fishy and I totally recommend him to all my friends out there. Dont hesitate to book with him at all. Planning to go out with him again real soon !

If you are looking for a captain that knows the waters…the fish… the history, then Al is your man. Made sure we caught some fish then let us spend some time hunting for bigger fish. A delightful day on a personal tour of the bay. G + P
