Our transportation was 30 minutes late picking us up.  He apparently went to the wrong resort.  That was frustrating but he apologized and was very nice after that.  The more frustrating thing was not having any way of communicating with our captain other than emailing through Fishing Booker.  So we had to sit the whole time wondering if anyone was actually coming to pick us up.  Upon arrival we were told we needed to pay for the transportation.  However, I was advised during the booking that it would be included if we booked a 3/4 day (6 hour) trip.  Apparently that was not communicated to others.  The boat Marlin Fever is a nice enough fishing boat.  It was advertised as having AC and if it does we did not experience it at all.  Tito and Wilke, the captain and assistant, were nice and seemed like good guys.  There was certainly a language barrier there so there wasn’t a whole lot of conversation but that was ok.  They spoke English well enough to let us know they were intent on helping us catch fish and have a good time.  They did just that.  They would intermittently take a brief break from trying to get us on fish to make sure if we were thirsty or hungry we were taken care of.  We caught a mahi mahi after a short bit but then there was a long time of nothing.  Sensing the dullness they found a school of small but plentiful amber jacks and we were able to catch some with lighter tackle and some by hand with only a baited hook and line.  We caught probably 20-30 of those so while they weren’t big it was fun catching them by hand.  We later got 3 mahi mahi on lines at the same time.  That was quite a rush!  And then another long drought before catching one more mahi mahi.  While we didn’t catch a big marlin or anything like that we ended up with 5 mahi mahi and a ton of small amber jacks.  Certainly not a bad haul.  Back at the dock there was more confusion.  The advertisement said we would keep our catch and that it would be cleaned for us.  That did not happen.  The crew kept the mahi mahi and they gave the amber jacks to our driver!  The trip was overall “good” because Tito and Wilke were nice and we did catch fish (which is more than what most of our previous trips have been like) but there was a lot of miscommunication that went on that if cleared up would make the trip even better.

We were picked up at our hotel right on time, headed to the dock where the boat was ready and waiting. Less than five minutes and we were on our way. The morning was s little slow… then wham… 5 dorado and two marlin later ( hooked to marlin at the same time and brought them both in) and everyone was smiling!  The first dorado caught was my daughters first fish ever. Great time for all!

I had a great time out on the water recently with Atlantida Marlin Fever! 1st class operation and they put me on fish. Keep in mind any given time the waters here can be rough so glad I took my Dramamine. Can’t wait to book another trip to catch Mahi Mahi and have another chance at Marlin.
