Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this weeks report has pretty much the same theme as last week, the fishing has been great and the weather has been pretty good as well. To start this week of we are going to start inshore, trolling the edge of the reef has been producing alot of nice kingfish as of late and a few quality bonitos in the mixl. The kingfish have been very nice sized averaging around the 10lb mark with some larger ones as big as 20lbs biting on the troll. Trolling with fresh bonito strips cut daily and a pink seawitch over the top of the strip has been the hot ticket as of late. Most bites have been coming on the deeper lines fished under the surface with planners but on our surface baits we have been seeing quite a few sailfish action too. Before we move offshore one other technique that has been quite successful right now on the reef is kite fishing, on days when there is a strong wind coming from easterly directions flying a kite with live baits suspended underneath it has been producing quite a few sailfish right now as well as bigger kingfish and bigger bonitos. Fishing with live bait is always going to get you less bites then trolling but the fish you will catch on live bait is always going to be bigger so you have to decide if you want quality of quantity. Moving offshore we have been seeing quite a few mahi mahi right now, like I usually say when looking for mahi if you can find something to fish to like birds, weedlines, or even floating debris you can't go wrong. When you can locate signs of life the predators are going to be close behind. Other then mahi the afternoons have been producing a solid bite of blackfin tuna right now. Fishing anywhere from 200-400 feet of water has been the best depths for the tunas and they have been eating mostly anything the trick is just finding where the tunas are, once you locate them getting the bite has been the easy part. There has been a few wahoo around as of late as well, although it is very tough to target wahoo in Fort Lauderdale this time of year it is certainly a welcomed by catch by all. Last but not least we have been doing a little bit of anchor fishing on the reef and the yellowtail snapper have been biting fairly well when the conditions cooperate. Anything from south east wind to east wind and a light north current is the recipe for picture perfect conditions to target these snappers. Anchoring in depths from 50-80 feet is going to be the best bet to anchor up for these snappers and start a chum slick. Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a great week of deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale we have been having great weather and some exceptional fishing as well, to start the report out this week we will start offshore. We have been seeing some excellent mahi mahi action right now in depths around 400 feet on birds and seaweed lines, the mahi have been biting best when there has been a heavy wind from the east and south east direction specially for a few consecutive days in a row. The mahi have been biting best in the morning time and surface baits on the troll have been producing the most action. The average size has been anywhere from 5-10lbs but there has been some real quality fish in the mix as big as 25lbs. Also offshore there has been a very good blackfin tuna bite going on right now from 200 feet on out to 400 feet. The afternoon time has been best for the tuna and if you can locate where the tuna are there isn't any problem trying to catch them, baits fished under the surface as well as top baits have been getting plenty of bites. While fishing for the tuna there is also a chance for a wahoo which would be the prized catch but that is more of a luck thing we don't see many wahoo this time of year but when we do it is always welcomed. On the inshore side of things live baiting with kites has been the best as of late, live goggle eyes fished from a kite has been producing some excellent sailfish action as well as some larger mahi and giant bonitos. Live bait is always going to produce more quality fish but trolling is going to produce more bites so you have to pick your poison. As far as the best bet right now seems like the afternoon trip has been producing the best results, tunas seem to be around almost every trip in the afternoon. Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, just an exceptional week here in Fort Lauderdale for deep sea fishing. To start out the report this week I'm going to talk about the inshore bite just on the edge of the reef. Trolling has been very productive right now with surface and baits under the surface. We have been catching quite a few mahi just on the edge of the reef right now I would say it has been as good of a mahi bite that I have ever seen. Surface baits with meat on them what I mean by meat is either a bonito strip or rigged ballyhoo has been very productive. Mahi are fast moving fish and always on the move so if you are using some type of bait on your lures rather then just a lure odds are if they hit your bait and you miss the bite they will come back and try to eat it again specially because they can taste its real. Other then mahi on the reef we have been seeing some decent sized king mackeral as well. Live bait fishing with kites has been very productive in the last few days for sailfish. Live baits fished from a kite is the preferred method if your looking to target sailfish but with live baits we have been getting some larger bonitos as well as big as 25lbs. Moving to the offshore side there has been a good amount of blackfin tuna around in all mixed sizes. Afternoons have been the most productive for the tunas and the depths from 180 feet out to 300 feet has been most productive. Smaller baits like mylar skirts and small spoons have been working the best on the tuna right now. On some of our deeper baits we have been starting to see a few wahoo as well, we dont catch many wahoo this time of year but when we do its always a great surprise. Last but not least we have been seeing some more mahi action just off the reef in depths around 400 feet. Birds, seaweed, or floating debris has been a good indication mahi are in the area, basically what I'm saying is to look for signs of life and odds are you will find the mahi close by. We have been getting some larger mahi on the offshore side of things some of the fish have been close to 30lbs. Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, this week we have had some spectacular fishing right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, so for the report this week on the inshore side of things seems like early in the morning has been best there has been a few bonito in shallows right on top of the reef in depths as shallow as 45 feet. Just off the reef there has been some kingfish action but live bait has been the go to if your looking for kingfish. Moving deeper to the depths around 200 feet there has been some blackfin tuna action but afternoons seem to be best for the tuna. We have been seeing the most action on lures in the greenish colors. While fishing for tuna there is always a chance to catch a wahoo. We have been starting to see a few wahoo as well which is always great. Wahoo in my opinion is one of the best fish that you can catch right off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, fantastic colors and one of the best eating fish on the dinner table. Last but not least on the offshore side there has been a green water to blue water edge, when you find an edge like this that is where two currents meet forming a tideline and there are usually signs of life like seaweed, birds, or floating debris meaning there is quality gamefish in that area, speaking on that there has been some fantastic mahi action on that edge. Trolling down the edge on the blue water side with mostly surface baits there has been some quality mahi to be caught but also we have been fishing a planner down deep incase there are wahoo in the same area. All in all it has been a great week of deep sea fishing in Fort Lauderdale obviously with fishing some days are better then others but thats fishing and thats what makes it fun. Hello everyone, Capt. Vinnie here with a great fishing report for you guys this week. The weather has been in our favor this week specially for some deep sea fishing. Starting off the morning trips have been seeing some great action on the troll for blackfin tuna. Trolling the depths from 180 on out to 300 feet has been the most productive as of late and lures in a greenish color have been getting the most bites. Some of the tuna we have been getting have been over 20lbs, which is just great! no complaints here. Also in the early mornings there has been a very good showing of mahi mahi right now which is somewhat odd for this time of year they are more of a summer time fish but I won't say no if they are biting thats for sure. The mahi have been biting in depths from 300 on out to 500 feet, the best action has been on color changes from green water to blue water as well as scattered weeds and the best action would be if your lucky enough to hit the jackpot and find something floating like pieces of wood or floating ropes. Other then mahi and tuna we have been seeing some wahoo action as well. Some of the wahoo that are being caught have been early in the mornings primarily over structure like sunken ship wrecks. Afternoon trips have been producing a solid bite of blackfin tuna the later the better it has been slow from around 1 to 3pm but once 4pm approaches that seems to be when the tuna have been starting to bite. Tuna have big eyes and are sensitive to light so low light conditions are always going to be best if your looking to catch tuna. On a final note bottom fishing for vermillion snappers has been somewhat decent when the current allows for it also if your have live bait most deeper wrecks are holding some very large amberjacks right now too. Hello everyone Capt. Vinnie here, what a great week of deep sea fishing it has been in Fort Lauderdale, I would say the spring fishing conditions are here and in full force not to mention the weather has been just excellent no complaints here! This week the early mornings have been very good specially while trolling. Some really nice blackfin tuna coming on the deeper baits fished with planners the depth from 180 feet on out to 300 feet has been the magic area for these blackfin tunas and the size has been excellent. Average size has been around 10lbs give or take, now blackfin don't get as large as yellowfin and bluefin tuna but that being said that doesn't mean they don't taste as good because they are excellent eating and not to mention sushi grade as well. We have been seeing a few bonito and kingfish as bycatch while tuna fishing. Moving a little deeper there has been quite a few mahi mahi right now which is not really common in the month of March off the coast of Fort Lauderdale but no complaints here, mahi are always welcomed aboard. The best advice I could give is try to locate a color change where the green water meets the blue water, there usually is a weed line of some sort because that is where the different currents meet and form an edge, usually there is bird activity as well. Mornings have had some solid action but I would say the best bet right now would be afternoon specially if your looking for some tuna, best to sleep in and get out for the afternoon bite. Spring fishing is definitely in full swing here in Fort Lauderdale lots of different species biting and plenty of action.
