Our half day near shore trip with Captain JJ was an excellent time. He was an incredible Captain; teaching us the ways in order to catch Yellow Jacks, coaching us when needed so we could avoid the sharks getting into our catch, and pitching the bait in as one was being reeled in order to get another hook up. It was just me and my wife he was very pleasant and accommodating. Telling us some Key West stories between wrecks. He was efficient going between sites and anchoring down; I’ve been on other trips when the Captain and mate had to reset the anchor a few times which takes time away from fishing and a half day of fishing goes quick. It was also just him doing all the work. We choose the half day because we didn’t have much time down here and didn’t want to spend a whole day out fishing which can be exhausting if you have never done it before. We got into a small frenzy of fish at our second site but one on our memorable moments is when I got my fish one and got it close to the boat you can see the shark chasing the yellow jack and getting ready to eat it then I remembered what Capt. JJ told me to do is try to swing the rod left to right to make the shark miss which worked out really well! The shark was splashing all over next to the boat and swung that fish right over and into the boat. I highly recommend getting you fish cooked at Hurricane Hole Marina which is where you would start and end your trip. The food was fantastic and the fish was delicious. In my experience my marinas that have a restaurant or grill located at the docks usually know how to cook the fish very well and we weren’t disappointed. I know a few people who are coming down soon and will be recommending Capt JJ.
