We’d initially booked a half-day wreck fishing charter, but opted to stay closer to shore to fish for blues and mackerel because it was rough and stormy. We’re sure glad we did: we started hitting blues in the first five minutes the lines went in, and four hours later, arms tired, we’d landed about 20 bluefish along with a dozen nice Spanish mackerel.
All three in our party were occasional fishermen but this was our first charter (an anniversary present to my wife); Captain Ernie and first mate Daniel were terrific throughout, both helpful, friendly, and informative (and they obviously knew where the fish were). Daniel worked hard throughout, keeping us in tackle, but he took the time to show us what he was doing so we could do it on our own, too. I’m sure most of their clients had more experience than we did, but we never felt like we were asking dumb questions.
The boat itself is well maintained, stable, and comfortable—we were in rough wind and water the whole time and got tossed around, but never felt unsafe. Good facilities, no clutter, clean and easy to fish from.
I’d recommend this experience (and this crew) to anyone, experienced or novice. Thanks, Ernie and Daniel!
