- Background
- I started fishing in the rivers and lakes of the Sierra Nevada mountains. When I was in junior high my family got our first boat and I was able to fish saltwater for the first time and I was hooked! When I was 20 I got my first fishing boat. Since then I have had five different fishing boats which have led me to the "Frances B", my current charter boat. It is ideally equipped for fishing the Southern California waters. I also have a charter fleet of boats doing wine cruises in Newport Beach and San Diego which keeps me on the water almost every day of the year. I have been a charter captain for eight years and I have loved every moment of it and can't wait to share more experiences with you!
- Techniques
- Island fishing is my preferred style of fishing. Whether it is fishing Catalina or San Clemente, when I am at the islands I am in my zone. At the islands, I am always on the hunt for California Yellowtail. No fish fights or tastes better than our island Yellowtail! Halibut, White Sea Bass, Bonito, and Barracuda are other target species at the islands and can be caught year-round. In our peak summer months, I also like to fish offshore looking for kelp paddy Yellowtail, Dorado, and Tuna. When this bite is hot it can be an epic time! I LOVE taking out anglers who want to spearfish on these paddies in the summer months. Too much fun! With my homeport of Newport Beach, I also love fishing locally in Crystal Cove. When I get a call from a family who wants a half day and to just 'bend the rod' and have a relaxing day on the water this is my go-to spot! It is just a few minutes from the harbor entrance, is BEAUTIFUL, and has some of the best fishing on our coast
